Large numbers of initiatives now mobilise technology to support the wellbeing of young Australians. However, amongst communities undertaking this work, there is currently significant duplication and insufficient sharing of research and best practice models. A Research Facility that consolidates existing research, and guides new research and initiatives will improve service delivery to young Australians by: reducing duplication between organizations working with young people; providing an accessible interface with research that can help address the community’s concerns about the role of technology in young people’s lives, and inform future policy and programs; and model effective cross-sector knowledge brokering to Australian industry. Access to knowledge is a basic tenant for the advancement of science, and the efficient exchange of information is of fundamental importance. The electronic definition of data in science remains remarkably chaotic and uncoordinated, posing obstacles to data interoperability. This research provides a general approach to the coalescence of enormous and diverse data collections making them accessible to modern data mining techniques. We will automatically build active knowledge bases from semantically rich ontologies. The outcomes will be both conceptual and practical, with the creation of an interoperability management model, and the development of exemplar ontologies and databases in molecular biology and in taxonomy, plus associated implementation and access tools.Read moreRead less

Many businesses are increasing their expenditure on IS/IT to obtain a strategic competitive advantage. Traditional approaches to IS/IT appraisal are unable to accommodate the costs associated with deploying 'organisational-wide' IS/IT solutions because of their qualitative characteristics. The inability of managers to determine the 'true' costs of IS/IT are attributable to a lack of knowledge and understanding of IS/IT related costs. This research will extend the myopia of traditional 'direct' financial cost analysis by identifying 'indirect' cost factors. A model that integrates cost taxonomies and performance measures/metrics of IS/IT will be developed as a frame of reference for IS/IT decision-makers.Read moreRead less

The pervasive nature of the Web has raised two important issues, namely (1) how to exchange data between isolated information systems within two different companies with their own data formats and (2) how to store information particularly documents, so that they can be accessed through the internet based on their meaning. The Extended Markup Language XML has emerged as the favoured means of addressing these issues and this is leading to an explosive growth in the information stored in this way. This project addresses the issue of determination of patterns and knowledge in information stored in XML through datamining.Read moreRead less
