Non-invasive Detection Of Hypoglycaemia In People With Diabetes Using Brain Wave Activity
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$330,447.00
Summary
Hypoglycaemia remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in people with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes who require insulin therapy. Current treatments for nocturnal hypoglycaemia are usually ineffective. Combining brain wave recording and artificial intelligence, we will identify the changes that precipitate an episode of hypoglycaemia allowing the development of a non-invasive device to prevent or alleviate these fearful and potentially life-threatening events.
Interaction Mining for Cyberbullying Detection on Social Networks. This project plans to build an interactive mining system to detect cyberbullying on social networks that have a large number of participants and a variety of inputs, including conversation texts, time-variant changes and user profiles. The project is designed to change the existing cyberbullying prevention services from reactive keyword filtering to proactive social interaction pattern mining. The intended outcome will enable the ....Interaction Mining for Cyberbullying Detection on Social Networks. Artificial intelligence meets wireless sensor networks: filling the gaps between sensors using spatial reasoning. Monitoring potential disaster regions and integrating available information with expert knowledge can prevent disasters and save many lives. The outcome of our project is one of the key components for intelligent systems that can autonomously monitor the environment, make the correct inferences and issue appropriate warnings and recommendations.
A Framework for Adaptive Extensible Personae for Interactive Toys. This project will be of benefit in that it will facilitate the development of quality toys, based on sound psychological foundations. These toys will have a long life since they can be extended over time, growing with the child. There is also potential to be used for children with psychological difficulties, and applications in health and aged-care. This project will provide opportunities for Australian business, and will also h ....A Framework for Adaptive Extensible Personae for Interactive Toys. This project will provide opportunities for Australian business, and will also help to keep Australia at the forefront in the area of intelligent agent technology. It is an example of a project that helps create a culture of innovation in Australian industry.Read moreRead less
Monitoring health and wellbeing of seniors using unintrusive sensors. This project addresses concerns regarding the wellbeing of seniors living at home by modelling their daily routines to detect significant changes due to functional decline or the onset of illness. These models are planned to be integrated into a personalised in-home monitoring system that also detects instantaneous adverse events, such as falls. This system will include a novel inexpensive sensor bundle comprising unintrusive ....Monitoring health and wellbeing of seniors using unintrusive sensors. This project addresses concerns regarding the wellbeing of seniors living at home by modelling their daily routines to detect significant changes due to functional decline or the onset of illness. These models are planned to be integrated into a personalised in-home monitoring system that also detects instantaneous adverse events, such as falls. This system will include a novel inexpensive sensor bundle comprising unintrusive sensors and decision procedures that determine whether and how to communicate with seniors and carers to deliver information and alerts. The effectiveness and acceptance of these technologies will be evaluated on a diverse population of seniors and carers.Read moreRead less
Robust AI Planning for Hybrid Systems. Automated planning, a core area of Artificial Intelligence, can effectively deal with the automatic synthesis of optimised action strategies for discrete system models. Extending the reach of planning to hybrid discrete/continuous systems, under exogenous uncertainty, is a widely open problem which this project will address. This will enable the proactive, and therefore more effective, management of microgrids and other cyber-physical systems, based on fore ....Robust AI Planning for Hybrid Systems. Multiview video coding using cuboid data compression. This project investigates novel approaches to multiview video coding that use new data compression techniques and explicit occlusion handling. These new approaches complement the state-of-the-art, improving interactivity with instantaneous view change and VCR functionality, reducing encoding complexity, and increasing compression efficiency.
Thermo-mechanical interactive atlas of basin evolution. We propose to create a thermo-mechanical interactive atlas of basin evolution as a desktop geodynamic modelling resource for exploration geologists. The atlas will allow the user to iteratively run our 2D/3D basin modelling software ELLIPSIS to alter model parameters until they match observed basin geometries or thermal history. Model iteration will be based on interactive user evaluation of model outputs and genetic algorithms, which pr ....Thermo-mechanical interactive atlas of basin evolution. Model iteration will be based on interactive user evaluation of model outputs and genetic algorithms, which progressively modify the solution set by mimicking the evolutionary behavior of biological systems (selection, cross-over and mutation), until an acceptable result is achieved. The interactive atlas will be applied to Australian and international case studies.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop intelligent decision-making systems for non-invasive identification of adverse neural events (fatigue/freezing of gait) through real-time monitoring of brain wave activity. Analyses of the effectiveness of the changes in physiological parameters associated with electroencephalography (EEG) signals, advanced biomedical instrumentation, and optimal computational intelligence will form a basis for the development of platform technology capable of monitoring and detection of neural health status. Success is expected to yield a new generation of smart dynamic non-invasive systems that will be critical for developing effective solutions to counter life threating conditions for a large cross section of the Australian population.Read moreRead less
