2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Evaluating Coronary Stents Using High-resolution Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging In Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $217,274.00
    Summary
A stent is a device made of metal that is placed inside an artery to prop it. Recently, the applicant introduced into Australia a novel technology to examine these stents once inside the body. This information may help make stents safer for patients

Assessment And Prediction Of Blood Flow Dynamics In Congenital Aortic Abnormalities Using Image-based Computer Modelling And Wave Intensity Analysis

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $390,925.00
    Summary
Severe aortic abnormality is a serious problem in many infants with congenital heart disease, but it is often unclear what type of treatment will optimise blood flow and minimise the risk of later complications. This study aims to harness recent developments in blood flow modelling, magnetic resonance imaging and advanced blood flow analysis techniques to determine the factors that lead to complications in these children, thereby providing crucial information for improving treatment strategies.

Prevention Of Group A Streptococcal Disease In The Developing World: Investigating Innovative Control Strategies For Rheumatic Heart Disease And Impetigo

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $178,614.00
    Summary
Group A streptococcal diseases, including rheumatic heart disease and impetigo, are major causes of illness globally, mostly in developing countries. This proposal is a comprehensive investigation into new ways of curbing these diseases, including using ultrasound screening for rheumatic heart disease, community wide treatment for impetigo and laboratory testing for new vaccines. The studies will be done in Fiji and will be relevant for other developing countries and for Indigenous Australians.

Effect Of Laparoscopic Gastric Banding And Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitor On Metabolic Myocardial Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $210,054.00
    Summary
The proposed research studies will add novel information about the effects of drug acting on Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone system and substantial weight reduction by key hole surgery on heart muscle stiffening and scar tissue formation due to obesity and diabetes. The knowledge gained will be essential to gain important insights into the underlying process of heart failure due to over-nutrition, high blood pressure, diabetes and define strategies aimed at reducing future heart failure.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $192,534.00
    Summary
This project aims to Investigate of the impact of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) patients in resource poor settings and at risk populations with a focus on the Asia Pacific region. Studies will be undertaken to contribute to the understanding of the burden of disease in the Asia Pacific; to determine the impact of RHD on young pregnant women; to evaluate complications and outcomes of RHD patients who have had heart surgery in Fiji and trial an intervention to improve clinical management.

Cardiac Dysfunction In Diabetes: A Novel Therapeutic Approach

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Summary
Diabetes is a global epidemic with high mortality associated with heart failure. I propose a new hypothesis: diabetic heart failure reflects a progressive decline in heart pump efficiency due to an accumulation of large glycogen stores in heart muscle cells. This research aims to characterise the underlying causes of heart failure in diabetes and identify intervention potential to rescue function and prevent the progression into failure.

Does Renal Afferent Nerve Activation Contribute To Cardiac Sympathoexcitation And Decreased Renal Function In Heart Failure?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $311,860.00
    Summary
Removal of the nerves sending information between the kidneys and the brain reduces blood pressure in hypertensive patients. There is intense interest in the use of this procedure in heart failure patients, as it may reduce the harmful high level of nerve activity from the brain to the heart and kidneys. Using an experimental model of heart failure, I will determine whether this approach is beneficial in heart failure and its mechanisms of action.
