Promoting Positive Adolescent Psychosocial Development Through Enhancing School Connectedness: Evaluation of an innovative program for teachers. This project contributes to a research priority area of preventing psychosocial problems in adolescence. School connectedness, where students feel included and valued by the school, is a vital protective factor for adolescent well-being. This project implements a program to resource year 8 and 9 teachers (in intervention and wait-list control/intervention schools in both Tasmania and Sydney) to reduce their own stress and promote school connectedness. Improving the physical and oral health of people with severe mental illness: using Normalisation Process Theory to support new practices. The physical health of people with severe mental illness is extremely poor, often due to inadequate attention to their health needs by health professionals in primary care and the public mental health system. This project will focus on how practices can be changed to improve the health of this population and increase their access to preventative healthcare.
Testing for scale up: An Indigenous social and emotional learning program . This project takes key learnings from prior research that conceptualised, set up, and tested a social and emotional learning program, Skills for Life (SFL), with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in grades 7-9 in remote Northern Territory and Queensland schools. The difficult return: arts-based approaches to mental health literacy and building resilience with returned military personnel and their families. The research seeks to understand how the arts can respond to acute mental health issues confronting recently returned veterans and their families. The research will develop an innovative online mental health literacy project and engage veterans and their families in arts-based resilience work in order to produce positive mental health outcomes.
Influences on farmer suicide in Queensland and New South Wales. Australian farmers have been identified as being at high-risk of suicide. This project will provide direction for targeted suicide prevention strategies by quantifying the individual and environmental factors that place farmers at higher risk of suicide, as well as the protective factors that may buffer against suicide and suicidal behaviours.
Beyond psychopathology: Pathways to suicide in mentally well young adult males. Increased knowledge of risk factors for suicide among mentally well males can lead to better informed preventive health policies, earlier intervention and community education. The tragic impacts of suicide lead to long-term societal problems which result in disconnection and alienation, particularly for those who are left behind; findings from this study will assist development of initiatives aimed at increasing soci ....Beyond psychopathology: Pathways to suicide in mentally well young adult males. 1) Improve treatment efficacy by developing, testing and applying theoretically-driven models of psychotic symptoms.
2) Disseminate the findings of research on CBT for psychotic disorders in clinical settings by (a) training the work-force, and (b) facilitating CBT delivery in routine practice.
3) Apply CBT in various settings with a variety of psychotic populations to test its effectiveness in routine clinical settings.
