Safety and resiliency at home: voices of children who live with fear. Finding out what can help children feel safer who are currently living in households where there is family violence will enable early intervention for better outcomes for such children. This research is significant because it will focus on targeting appropriate responses by listening to the views of children themselves and hence finding out what is really helpful for them to build resiliency. Dying well: Designing rural end-of-life services for chronic disease. This project aims to understand how existing rural service structures impact access to end-of-life support in chronic conditions. Chronic diseases account for 90% of deaths in Australia, yet access to end-of-life support is limited and little is known about services in rural areas. Information gathered through patient and stakeholder interviews, national survey and service mapping will be used to generate a new evidence-based ....Dying well: Designing rural end-of-life services for chronic disease. A longitudinal study exploring women's experiences following a prenatal diagnosis of fetal abnormality. In Australia four per cent of babies are born with a congenital abnormality, many of which are detected during pregnancy. Little is known about women's experiences of a diagnosis. The aim of this study is to explore women's experiences following the diagnosis of a fetal abnormality during pregnancy, in order to develop appropriate models of supportive care.
Intellectual disability in courts and police cells. Benefit to the nation accrues because offenders with intellectual disability will be accurately identified early in their contact with the criminal justice system (CJS), and appropriate diversions from the CJS as well as rehabilitation programs can be implemented, thus producing cost-savings in all jurisdictions. Summary
The caregiver bereavement study: determining the effect of caregivers' anticipatory grief on post-bereavement outcome. The study discovers the 'true' impact of caregiving and is situated at the forefront of theoretical and methodological innovation. Furthermore, it will enhance the nation's capacity to provide appropriate services to caregivers pre- and post-bereavement which will promote the wellbeing of the large number of caregivers in our communities.
Dignity Therapy: A Novel Psychotherapeutic Intervention for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Patients near the End of Life. Considering the scarcity of effective interventions for the kinds of distress and suffering that so commonly occur amongst MND dying patients, this novel therapeutic intervention could become a very easy, practical intervention adopted within palliative care facilities and MND organisations. Keeping my place in the community: achieving successful ageing-in-place for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This project, in partnership with aged care and disability agencies across two states, aims to examine ways the aged care, social and health needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities may be met in rural and urban settings. It will explore mechanisms that will lead to a better integration of the aged care and disability sectors.
Developing Evidence-Based Workforce Models for Nursing Services in Acute Care Hospitals. Nursing shortages and increasing patient demand and acuity are influencing the capacity of the health system to deliver quality nursing care. The aims of this study are to document the current activities undertaken by differing levels of nursing staff in hospitals and develop evidence-based guidelines for future service delivery. Using Work Sampling, current activities will be documented then Critical Incide ....Developing Evidence-Based Workforce Models for Nursing Services in Acute Care Hospitals. Nursing shortages and increasing patient demand and acuity are influencing the capacity of the health system to deliver quality nursing care. The aims of this study are to document the current activities undertaken by differing levels of nursing staff in hospitals and develop evidence-based guidelines for future service delivery. Using Work Sampling, current activities will be documented then Critical Incident Technique will capture key contextual data and strategies for workforce redesign.
