The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Understanding and preventing mental health difficulties in young Australian men using the Internet. Mental health is a major public health problem in Australia. Young men are particularly vulnerable to suicide, drug and alcohol problems and yet fail to seek appropriate help. The Internet is currently accessed by 85% of Australia's youth and yet very little evidence exists which examines the capacity of the Internet to engage young men and promote help seeking. The Internet is currently accessed by 85% of Australia's youth and yet very little evidence exists which examines the capacity of the Internet to engage young men and promote help seeking. This project will build an evidence base which explores how innovative on-line strategies and social marketing can effectively promote help seeking behaviour and improve mental health outcomes for young men. Mental health problems and antisocial behaviour cost Australia millions of dollars every year through the mental health and criminal justice systems. Families in rural regions of Australia are particularly disadvantaged in terms of access to clinical services. This research will examine and train emotion recognition skills and other developmental characteristics in children referred for treatment for a range of behavioural and psychological disorders. Findings will lead to improvements in methods for early detection of child psychopathology with the potential for broad community implementation, and will contribute to the development of clinical protocols and treatment guidelines for early intervention and prevention. This project will help us identify core processes and mechanisms involved in PTSD, and help us to develop more effective and specialized treatments. It will also extend our understanding of how the brain inhibits emotion, which has wider relevance for many anxiety disorders in terms of their development and prevention.Read moreRead less
Rumination and Memory Functioning in Depression. By investigating and identifying the cognitive processes underlying symptom maintenance, this research will advance cognitive conceptualisations of depression. The findings will result in the generation and empirical evaluation of psychological treatment procedures for depression by taking a strong science-practitioner approach, ultimately enhancing: (i) the efficacy and cost effectiveness of psychological treatments for depressive disorders, and ....Rumination and Memory Functioning in Depression. The findings will result in the generation and empirical evaluation of psychological treatment procedures for depression by taking a strong science-practitioner approach, ultimately enhancing: (i) the efficacy and cost effectiveness of psychological treatments for depressive disorders, and (ii) the provision of mental health services to the Australian community. In applying rigorous experimental methodologies to answer theoretically driven questions about depression maintenance, these studies represent the interface of empirically sound and clinically-oriented experimental research.Read moreRead less

Developing strategies to ameliorate the aversive effects of ostracism. By investigating and identifying strategies to ameliorate the aversive effects of ostracism, this research will permit exciting advances that will extend existing conceptual models in the ostracism literature. Further, given the prevalence of ostracism across societal, occupational and community domains, these studies will yield outcomes with significant and far-reaching practical implications. Schizophrenia is associated with great costs to the community and individual. Controlled studies have demonstrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is efficacious in treating symptoms of schizophrenia. Studies of cognitive processes have also advanced understanding of psychotic phenomena. This initiative affords the opportunity to
1) Improve treatment efficacy by developing, testing and applying theoretically-driven models of psychotic symptoms.
2) Disseminate the findings of research on CBT for psychotic disorders in clinical settings by (a) training the work-force, and (b) facilitating CBT delivery in routine practice.
3) Apply CBT in various settings with a variety of psychotic populations to test its effectiveness in routine clinical settings.

Mental health problems in Australian Indigenous peoples are a major public health issue: the are frequent, disabling and represent a significant health burden. Indigenous Australian peoples and communities share a number of common historical and socio-economic experiences, and also differ one from another in terms of culture, language and tradition. However, the core concepts of mental health may have sufficiently similar characteristic and process across the communities. This ethnographic case study approach will provide i) a process for culturally mapping how Nyikina-Mangala people conceptualise 'mental health' and ii) develop culturally appropriate mental health promotion and prevention programs for indigenous communities.Read moreRead less

An experimental writing technique that involves writing about one's personal stressful experiences by using emotive descriptive words has been found to be helpful in improving mental health and physical functioning in various populations. This study will test how this expressive writing task leads to health benefits in two distinct samples; cancer survivors and healthy individuals. By identifying the methods by which this writing task can improve health functioning, this project will assist in adapting this task for use as a therapeutic technique in clinical settings to enhance the well-being of Australians. This will place less demands on health services, reduce absenteeism, and improve productivity. Read moreRead less
