Summary
Stroke is the major cause of death and disability. My ECF research project is designed to identify (1) factors that influence hospital readmissions (2) gaps in hospital care for specific groups who experience stroke using the largest national dataset (40+ hospitals, 17,000+ patients). These data will provide evidence for me to develop and test novel future interventions to reduce inequalities in health care access in order to reduce deaths and disability through improvements in stroke care.

Summary
The project aims to reduce obesity in future generations by understanding the link between sleep in pregnancy and weight-related health outcomes (diet, weight gain, body composition, glucose tolerance). Results will enable the development of sleep guidelines for pregnancy and an intervention to optimise health. This will inform pregnant women, health professionals and future obesity prevention policies on the effects of poor sleep on diet, metabolism and adiposity during pregnancy and beyond.

Summary
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in developing countries has increased dramatically. Action is now urgently required to develop targeted, low cost intervention programs to prevent T2DM. The Kerala Diabetes Prevention Program (K-DPP) is a cluster randomized trial in a rural area of Thiruvananthapuram district in Kerala State, India, of a culturally appropriate locality-based group diabetes intervention targeting individuals (aged 30-60 years) at ‘high risk’ of developing T2DM.
