In e-Research environments, users need to have secure access to remote resources owned by different organisations. Since these resources are not directly under the control of e-Research applications, they need to negotiate with resource providers for access time, duration, and the level of quality of service expected to make sure that the interlinked operations are performed as required. This project develops information and communications technologies that enable the creation of such e-Research environments.Read moreRead less

In the context of building high quality software, agent technology offers substantial promise. However, its widespread deployment by industry is hampered by the lack of commercially acceptable development methodologies. Here, we expand a metamodel-based process framework (the OPEN Process Framework) to support agent-oriented (AO) software development that will eventually both form a de facto standard for AO methodologies and be acceptable for commercial software application development. To create this extension, significant research in AO software engineering is required. Our basis will be the OPF plus elements from existing AO methodologies, notably Tropos and Gaia, whose authors will collaborate actively.Read moreRead less
Designing for Reliability and Maintainability in Service-Oriented Architectures. This project aims to build expertise in the design of computer software, especially enterprise systems in domains such as finance and logistics that are vast in scale and highly complex and geographically separated. This project aims to build expertise in the design of computer software, especially enterprise systems in domains such as finance and logistics that are vast in scale and highly complex and geographically separated. By fostering and formalising techniques for improving developer productivity and the reliability and maintainability of enterprise systems, Australia can secure a place as a world leader in software methodology, with an emphasis on technology production rather than consumption. Australian computer consulting services are a $19.5b industry, whilst the wider services sector, which is increasingly reliant on automation to stay competitive, accounts for 70% of Australia's GNP.Read moreRead less

This project falls in the priority area of Frontier Technologies for Building and Transforming Australian Industries. Embedded systems have complex communication architectures and functionalities due to their mission- and time-critical applications. This project will develop verifiable algorithms and techniques for design reuse to address them, help solve outstanding problems in the VLSI/SoC community and to lift the country's visibility and credibility in the area. The economic benefits are better techniques for design reuse for embedded systems that may be integrated into existing Computer Aided Design environments, with potential to commercialise the algorithms to Electronic Design Automation and vendors.Read moreRead less
Implementing Feferman-Landin Logic. The objective of this project is to utilise computer based verification tools (such as PVS and Rewritting Logic) to develop a software engineering environment for specifying and verifying systems written in high-level programming languages such as Java, Scheme, and ML. The project will thus subtantially advance the use of formal computer based tools to develop reliable programs and specifications for life-critical systems. Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept ....Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept application based upon a case study of Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s databases, to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexity, scope and key technological barriers for establishing an ICT infrastructure, to identify where the latest technologies can be used and where the gaps are for these technologies to be used in environmental sciences.Read moreRead less
