Technological innovation and change in supply chain integration. In examining emerging technology that can transform the performance of Australian industry we address the following priority goals: better understanding the processes that will advance knowledge and facilitate the development of technological innovations; the potential application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies across an entire supply chain; and the improved management of information in the storage, distribution, and delivery of products (smart information use). Improvement in the operational efficiency and performance of the supply chain will increase national wealth while minimising environmental impacts on the environment, for example, through the better utilisation of heavy freight carriers.

Fault detection and identification in nonlinear complex systems. Complex systems usually comprise a large number of inter-dependent subsystems linked together to perform a certain task. Examples of such systems are power systems, irrigation systems, air traffic control systems, to name a few. Such systems are subject to component failure or malfunction. Total failure can cause an unacceptable financial losses and/or danger to personnel. It is therefore extremely essential, from economic and safety view points, that a way be found to ensure reliable and viable operation of complex plants. A first step in achieving this goal is to detect faults on-line and in real-time when they occur and identify their location and characteristics, which is the aim of this project.

Linkage Projects - Grant ID: LP130100154

    Funder
    Australian Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $345,000.00
    Summary
Visual tracking with environmental constraints. By incorporating high level scene understanding into visual tracking, this project will improve the capacity to monitor and analyse complex patterns of activity in video. This has many applications in public safety and security, but the project will demonstrate it on the challenging task of tracking players during an Australian Football League (AFL) game to gather statistics on their performance.

ARC Research Network in Enterprise Information Infrastructure. EII targets consolidated research towards the comprehensive development & establishment of advanced information infrastructures. Its prime purpose is to provide a forum for intellectual exchange by diverse yet complementary research groups, to address the fundamental research problems faced by scientific & business communities when dealing with deployment of information technology to globally distributed, and data intensive environments. EII will address 3 tightly coupled research themes: Ability to interoperate across existing heterogenous platforms & applications; Efficient processing of very large data sets; Technology adoption & impact. Generic results will be applicable to e-science and large business information systems installations.
