I am a physiologist with expertise in endocrinology determining the roles of particular regulatory peptides in the normal functions of the gastrointestinal tract and in the development of gastrointestinal, renal and prostate cancers.
I am a nutritional scientist with a research focus on gastrointestinal function and energy intake regulation in humans. The aim of my research is to understand (1) how any changes in gut function in obesity derail the appetite-regulatory and, thus, reinforce weight gain, ans (2) the role of gut function in the pathophysiology of digestive symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia.
Prof Kamm is a gastroenterologist interested in developing improved treatments for gastrointestinal and pelvic floor disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease and functional disorders. He runs basic science, translational and clinical strands of research in parallel across the same areas of interest, developing new treatments that encompass physiological, pharmacological, surgical and psychological therapies.
The applicant aims to improve treatment of digestive disease by identifying and understanding the interactions between the nervous system and the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, with emphasis on sensory systems.
