Summary
Anaemia, malaria and HIV affect millions of people worldwide, but interactions between these conditions are poorly understood. A haematologist with training in public health, my interest is in finding ways to control the enormous global burden of anaemia. My research will focus on how iron status influences infection with malaria and HIV. It will provide evidence for anaemia control guidelines and help improve global policies for controlling iron deficiency where these infections coexist.

Summary
The project aim is to better understand the function of a newly-discovered signalling molecule in the mammalian brain, know as relaxin-3. Recent research suggests that this chemical is vital for normal animal behaviour, such as arousal, stress, and learning and memory processes. This project will thoroughly characterise how this chemical modulates activity of brain regions that subserve behaviour in rats. This should reveal clinical implications of relaxin-3 in human behavioural disorders.

Mental illness is a big disease burden of the population. Mental health problems may contribute to poor pregnancy outcomes. And pregnancy and birth may also increase the severity of parents’ mental disorder. This study is to investigate that how many women with history of family mental illness give birth in NSW and what is the relationship between mental health and pregnancy and birth. The study aims to provide information to improve mother and baby’s health.
