The Centre Of Research Excellence On Achieving The Tobacco Endgame (CREATE)

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,500,000.00
    Summary
The Centre of Research Excellence on Achieving the Tobacco Endgame (CREATE) will develop a strategy to make Australia smoke-free. Our multi-disciplinary research will determine which strategies are the most effective, equitable and acceptable to the public and policymakers. We will identify the barriers and enablers, and make recommendations on the optimal suite of policies to end the cigarette epidemic and reduce the healthcare burden associated with smoking related diseases.

Centre For Research Excellence In Malaria Elimination

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,470,291.00
    Summary
The CRE will work to accelerate progress towards malaria elimination in our region, through Surveillance, to develop better ways to monitor malaria transmission and discover who is infected, and to track movement of malaria parasites and spread of drug resistance. Diagnosis, to develop and test new, more sensitive ways of detecting malaria. Treatment, to fast track development of new antimalarials, and improve access to ensure all infected people get highly effective drugs.

Centre Of Research Excellence In Translating Nutritional Science To Good Health

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,499,994.00
    Summary
At current rates, over two thirds of Australians will be overweight by 2025, and a third will develop type 2 diabetes during their lifetime. Meanwhile, elderly Australians and those requiring intensive care admissions are at risk of debility from under-nutrition. Our Centre links scientists in the laboratory with clinical researchers to develop nutritional solutions to a number of major diseases, and has the expertise to apply these in the community.

Centre For Research Excellence In Reducing Healthcare Associated Infection

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,495,795.00
    Summary
Each year in Australia 180,000 patients suffer a healthcare associated infection. Risk can be reduced with relatively simple technology but substantial costs arise with system wide adoption and monitoring. The economic paradigm is that funds can be invested for infection reduction to save costs and lives. The CRE will reveal the cost-effectiveness of infection control programmes and show health services decision-makers how to improve patient outcomes, save resources and save lives.

Centre For Research Excellence In Critical Infectious Diseases

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,623,406.00
    Summary
Severe infection kills millions of people every year, but clinicians and policy makers rarely get the information they need in time to make potentially life-saving decisions about infection. We will apply modern genomics and information systems to better understand infection threats in critical care environments and explore the ethical and medicolegal aspects that may either facilitate or present barriers to important research and time-critical decision making.

    Nursing Interventions For Hospitalised Patients

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,623,475.00
    Summary
The Centre for Research Excellence in Nursing Interventions for Hospitalised Patients will provide evidence to improve the nursing care of a broad range of hospitalised patients who are at risk of complications related to compromised skin integrity and poor pain/anxiety management. Systematic reviews and clinical trials will provide the basis for developing clinical practice guidelines to assist nurses in providing high quality care to the 3.5 million Australians admitted to hospital each year.
