Aboriginal community controlled health services and private general practice need to work together to close the gap. This practice-based cultural respect program and toolkit establishes a care partnership, with Aboriginal cultural mentors, to support strategies to embed cultural respect in general practices on an ongoing basis. Access To Paid Parental Leave And The Health Of Young Mothers

Summary
The Government’s Paid Parental Leave (PPL) scheme, which aims to improve workforce participation and maternal and infant health, is particularly significant for young mothers who were unlikely to have had access to paid leave previously. An intervention, implemented at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, will provide information to young mothers and help them apply for PPL and will be evaluated in terms of its impact on workforce participation and maternal and infant health.
Capacitating student aspirations in classrooms and communities in a high poverty region. This project studies the aspirations of students in a disadvantaged area, as cultural resources for completing school, accessing higher education and realising desirable futures. It will produce new concepts and research methods for increasing social equity by working closely with students and families, and making links between schools and communities.
Policy-Based Reasoning in Private Law. The Australian community devotes a great deal of attention to improving the regulation of commercial and consumer relations through participative, public processes such as law reform commissions and parliamentary inquiries. The important role of judicial law-making in regulating economic and social relations is often overlooked. Young people's narratives of socio-economic disadvantage and educational opportunities in contexts of place-based interventions. Society and individuals suffer when young people from disadvantaged areas become disengaged from school. This project will inform educational policy by generating knowledge from young people about the resources they use to make educational decisions.
Social justice dispositions informing teachers' pedagogy in advantaged and disadvantaged secondary schools. This project studies the different perspectives that teachers have towards social justice and how these differently influence their teaching in advantaged and disadvantaged secondary schools. It will produce new concepts and methods for researching educational inequalities and to better enable teachers to act in more socially just ways.

At this time of financial crisis, when personal bankruptcy and corporate insolvency are on the rise, it is essential to know exactly who owns what, when and why. Yet Australian law is unclear and often inconsistent as to when and why the law imposes property rights in favour of a plaintiff over assets held by a defendant and what those rights should be. Building on a successful partnership with Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment, this project aims to investigate how graduates from a unique teacher education program - designed to prepare quality teachers for schools situated in low socio-economic communities - perceive, recognise and enact ‘quality’ in their practice. The project merges theory on disadvantage with school-based practice and evidence of impact to develop theorisations of how early career teachers understand and enact quality teaching.
