This includes such areas as vibration testing, mate .... Development of a world-class facility for three dimensional dynamic testing. Development of a world-class facility for three dimensional dynamic testing: This project aims to establish a world-class facility for multi-directional dynamic testing. Currently there are no such facilities in Australia. The ability to recreate dynamic motion in all available degrees-of-freedom opens up enormous fields of research not currently possible in Australia. This includes such areas as vibration testing, materials testing, biomechanics and human factors, blast and earthquake simulations, field robotics, automotive safety research, flight/vehicle simulation, and marine applications including sloshing of liquids and liquefaction of fines. In conjunction with a 3D laser doppler system this facility will be unique in the world for dynamic mechanical testing.

An Australian-first motion simulation facility consisting of a high-payload, high-fidelity Stewart platform mounted on a dual-axis linear track is proposed. The facility will allow high acceleration and high vibration manoeuvres, and large displacements through an eight-degrees-of-freedom range of motion. It can carry the entire control compartment of a heavy vehicle, a truck, an ambulance, a train, or a multi-operator .... A high-payload, high-fidelity haptically-enabled motion simulation facility. The outcome will provide significant benefits for virtual vehicle prototyping and testing, driver training and behaviour modelling, motion perception and motion sickness research; therefore advancing Australia as the global leader in motion simulation and vehicular technologies.

The system will house a human subject at the end of a large serial robot similar to a human arm, which can rotate continuously about its base. The robot arm will be installed .... A haptic-based immersive motion platform for human performance evaluation: This project aims to establish a motion platform capable of combining continuous centrifugal rotation and large linear displacement with an additional five degrees of motion. The system will house a human subject at the end of a large serial robot similar to a human arm, which can rotate continuously about its base. The robot arm will be installed on a large linear axis enabling the simulation of movements and accelerations along a straight path as well as rotation provided by other axes of the robot. The motion platform will comprise audio and visual devices, and haptic-based control mechanisms, for example a steering wheel and pedals or a helicopter cyclic, to provide a number of human immersed scenarios for driving/flying training and human perception evaluation.

This project aims to enhance the sensitivity of nano-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (nanoESI-MS) by an order of magnitude by simultaneously overcoming the two interdependent limitations in ion generation and transmission efficiency. This project will design glass capillaries and tubes with complex structures to enable both multiplexing ion generation from a single capillary and geometrically matching the bore of the tube collecting the emitted ion plume. NanoESI-MS has become an indispensable analytical tool for proteomics and synthetic chemistry. The significant enhancement of nanoESI-MS sensitivity in this project is expected to accelerate progress in disease research, biomarker discovery and drug development.

This project will bring together a world leading mine survey company, The University of Adelaide and Macquarie University researchers, to develop an 'eye-safe' micro laser for high resolution three-dimensional laser-mapping. The recently developed and patented 'chip' laser will allow the realisation of a compact, enhanced range laser-radar with unmatched resolution.
