Summary
This CRE involves collaboration between a multi-disciplinary research team across Australia working with policy-makers covering planning, urban design, transport planning and health. It will identify the most cost-effective built environment interventions required to create healthy, liveable, and equitable communities. Factors that influence research findings being translated into urban planning policy and practice will be examined and tools to assist changes to policy and practice developed.
Testing a new model for addressing covert racism faced by Indigenous youth . Racism is associated with poor mental health among Indigenous youth (14-25 years). Previous research has examined overt forms of racism but overlooked subtle and covert forms. This project is designed to provide crucial new knowledge on the forms, impacts, and interpersonal context of covert racism among Indigenous youth. This project aims to identify a range of modifiable factors that affect the participation of Indigenous adolescents in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination school programs. The project expects to generate new knowledge by combining Indigenous methodologies and a socioecological model to explore policy, community, interpersonal and intrapersonal factors impacting HPV vaccination uptake for this population. This project aims to examine the effect of an adult literacy campaign on Aboriginal communities in New South Wales. Since 2012, four western NSW Aboriginal communities have implemented a Cuban-designed mass campaign model to address very low levels of adult literacy.
