Expected outcomes include enhanced knowledge about the shifting nature of schooling reform in Australia and insights into evolving relationships between governments and citizens in public service delivery. Intended benefits include insights to inform future policy design and implementation at school and system levels.Read moreRead less
Teacher capabilities in conditions of superdiversity. The increasing diversity of students in schools presents a significant challenge for the professional education and practice of teachers. The project aims to develop an original approach to measuring teacher capabilities to respond to and engage with difference. Its expected significance is in building new knowledge about teacher workforce development to achieve education goals and social cohesion in conditions of superdiversity. The project' ....Teacher capabilities in conditions of superdiversity. The project's expected outcomes include a metric of teacher capabilities that can inform the professional education of teachers and policy settings in this country and internationally. This large-scale study should return real benefits to ensure successful education and well-being of diverse students.Read moreRead less
University learning in the digital age: Investigating how students learn online. Learning in higher education has become more complex since much of the founding research 40 years ago, with online technologies increasingly used to engage a diverse university student population in student-centred learning. The proposed study aims to update our understanding of student learning to this contemporary university context. The project will focus specifically on how students interpret online tasks set by their teachers, how they complete those tasks by tracking their activities in real-time, and what outcomes they achieve. This study will advance fundamental understanding of these inter-related processes, and provide the stimulus to change thinking about educational design, teaching practices, and support for students.Read moreRead less
Towards better multidimensional well-being measurement. The research will develop enhanced multidimensional measures of well-being and provide guidance that will significantly improve their use and interpretation. It will provide insights that will better inform policies aimed at higher well-being levels.
Does a teacher-led mindfulness intervention improve student outcomes? This project aims to determine if improving teacher knowledge and practice of mindfulness in the classroom, can lead to better child attention and school functioning outcomes during the early primary school years. Mindfulness is an approach that aims to improve attention, self-regulation, mental health, and cognitive functioning. Expected outcomes include new knowledge as to whether mindfulness can be integrated into classroom ....Does a teacher-led mindfulness intervention improve student outcomes? This project aims to determine if improving teacher knowledge and practice of mindfulness in the classroom, can lead to better child attention and school functioning outcomes during the early primary school years. Mindfulness is an approach that aims to improve attention, self-regulation, mental health, and cognitive functioning. Expected outcomes include new knowledge as to whether mindfulness can be integrated into classroom practice, how to best implement it, student benefits and cost-effectiveness. Findings will inform schools as to whether this approach can support students in making a positive transition to primary school that can place them on positive academic and well-being pathways and lead to benefits in their adulthood.Read moreRead less
Knowledge building in schooling and higher education: policy strategies and effects. Should school and university programs in Australia emphasise learning outcomes and competencies, or maintain a high subject-based focus? This project investigates what is happening in history, science and in 'graduate attributes' across the learning cycle to shed new light on knowledge-building in a period of rapid global knowledge change.
Understanding the diverse biology of CD4+ T cell resident memory. This project aims to examine the biology of CD4 T cell memory in tissues. The previously unappreciated complexity of the CD4 T cell resident memory compartment in the liver will be characterised, focusing on the generation, maintenance and diversity of functions of these cells. Expected outcomes include the generation of fundamental knowledge in the disciplines of cellular biology and immunology, and unique, highly specialised stu ....Understanding the diverse biology of CD4+ T cell resident memory. This project aims to examine the biology of CD4 T cell memory in tissues. The previously unappreciated complexity of the CD4 T cell resident memory compartment in the liver will be characterised, focusing on the generation, maintenance and diversity of functions of these cells. Expected outcomes include the generation of fundamental knowledge in the disciplines of cellular biology and immunology, and unique, highly specialised student and personnel training through the interdisciplinary approach utilised, which spans cellular biology, live-imaging and transcriptomic analyses. Expected benefits include influential publications and the import of a novel, specialised technique to Australia through an international collaboration (Germany)Read moreRead less

Additionally, there is a lack of stakeholder input into decisions about the use of AI in education. Utilising social science and data science approaches, this project aims to democratise policy about AI in education by building tools to monitor policies, and developing collaborative policy making methods. The expected outcomes include publicly available policy resources to anticipate, and respond to, the role of AI in education, and participatory frameworks for policy making. The benefits include informed stakeholder engagement, and concrete policy recommendations that are globally relevant and adaptable to the Australian context.Read moreRead less

This project aims to develop a situation recognition framework to recognise and anticipate unforeseen emerging situations, such as schedule changes, incidents, and disruptions in an urban environment. The project will address a significant knowledge gap by capturing and modelling unpredictability in human mobility and work routines. The outcome will be a situation recognition framework that can be applied at the individual, social group, and urban level, and at multiple locations and time scales. This should provide users with timely notifications and recommendations to resume their activities and routines. The expected benefits will be far-ranging and adaptable to many domains, from personal smart assistants to trip planning and emergency services.Read moreRead less

proposal will establish models of 4 key stages. Employing innovative, interdisciplinary approaches, biomaterials will be fabricated to provide structural and chemical support for human stem cells during: (i) neural induction, (ii) specification into neuronal progenitor subpopulations, (iii) neuronal maturation and integration into complex neural networks as well as, (iv) the organisation of neurons into larger 3-dimensional brain structures, namely folding of the human cortex. Further, biomaterials developed here have commercialisation potential, targeted at standardizing the culturing of human stem cells to defined neural populations.
