Multiculturalism and governance: evaluating arts policies and engaging cultural citizenship. This project examines the capacity of multicultural arts to promote a sense of belonging within culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Through its study of arts policy, production, and consumption at three levels of government it will generate a new framework for evaluating the significance of multiculturalism.
Recalibrating culture: production, consumption, policy. Over the last decade the number of Australians engaging in paid or unpaid cultural activity increased by over 50 per cent. This project will address this major change in cultural production and consumption through a Greater Western Sydney case-study, thus developing an innovative cultural policy tailored to Australia's dynamic new cultural economy.

Religion and Urban Development in India: Planning Sustainable Cities. This project argues that religion influences urban development in India, and must inform policy. India's scale and speed of urbanisation makes its sustainable urban development critical globally, yet modernist urban planning has failed to address slum growth, poverty, gender inequality and ecological crises. Using interviews, archival research and fieldwork in six walled cities that clearly display the interactions of religion ....Religion and Urban Development in India: Planning Sustainable Cities. The overwhelming majority of local governments in Australia are developing cultural plans and placemaking strategies. Despite claims that cultural planning can achieve an ever-expanding range of social, aesthetic, economic and cultural objectives, there has been little systematic academic research investigating these claims, their framing assumptions, or the shifting relationship between place, social change, culture, art and policy within specific localities. Through a combination of policy analysis, case study and ethnographic research, this innovative interdisciplinary Project will explore cultural planning at both micro and macro levels.
