Parallels that exist between C17th and late C20th/C21st entertainment spectacles will be explored, including the formal connections that exist between theme parks and C17th aristocratic gardens, villas, and theatrical spectacles. Transforming city spaces: street art, urban cultures, transnational networks. The appearance of urban spaces has a dramatic impact upon the lives of the citizens who live in them. In comparing a range of local and international cities, this project investigates ways in which street art, a new cultural practice, has been transforming experiences of cities, cultural practices and communities.
Memory and Identity in England 1500-1700. This project will test the hypothesis that struggles to control memory were central to the redefinition of beliefs, collective identities and social structures in England, 1500 to 1700. It will focus analysis on three ways of remembering, expressed in written, visual and material media: genealogy, local history, and commemoration of the dead.
