A Prospective Cohort Study Investigating The Relationships Between Negative Emotions, Biomarkers And Long Term Functioning In Post-MI Patients

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $980,498.00
    Summary
Depression and anxiety commonly occur in patients with heart disease, particularly those who have had a heart attack. Together they represent a large burden on the healthcare system as well as individual patient’s lives. Planning, Timing And Quit Success: A Randomised Controlled Trial

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $448,108.00
    Summary
The aim of this project is to better understand how quit smoking interventions should be structured to maximise effectiveness; should smokers be encouraged to quit immediately to capitalize on the motivation that caused them to seek help, or first spend time planning, and can the planning be done after quitting? The answers will inform the design and delivery of smoking cessation programs, and potentially programs for other hard-to-change behaviours.

Researching Effective Sleep Treatments (Project REST): A Partner-Assisted Intervention To Improve Adherence In Cognitive Behavioural Therapy For Insomnia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,130,307.00
    Summary
Insomnia is highly prevalent and predicts many other mental and physical problems. While very good behavioural treatments exist for insomnia, not everyone is able to comply with the difficult behaviour changes required to improve. Bed partners often influence sleep behaviours, and thus, can play a helpful role in the treatment of insomnia, if they are taught how. We will test the first intervention ever developed integrating the partner into insomnia treatment as a means of improving outcomes.

Developing A Psychological Model Of Care For Adolescents And Young Adults With Complex Congenital Heart Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $86,117.00
    Summary
Adolescents and young adults with complex congenital heart disease face many challenges including the need for lifelong cardiac surveillance, medication, and navigating normal transitions such as developing independence; factors which place the individual at risk of psychological morbidity. Determining risk factors contributing to loss to follow-up and psychological morbidity is needed to develop evidence-based psychological interventions, which are strongly recommended but currently lacking.

Evaluation Of A Healthy Lifestyle Intervention Targeting Young People Living In Out-of-home Care

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $69,099.00
    Summary
Recent National findings reveal that on average, 45% of Australian children aged 5-14 years watch TV for at least 2 hours/day. Given the risk for adverse cognitive, behavioral and physical health outcomes related to excessive TV viewing, including childhood obesity, there is an urgent need to design effective interventions to reduce unhealthy TV habits in the early years. My project responds to this need.
