2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Language Deficits And Cognitive Dysfunction In Motor Neuron Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $263,513.00
    Summary
Motor neuron disease (MND) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are fatal degenerative brain diseases that overlap clinically and pathologically. Patients with either disease can develop a combination of motor and cognitive deficits (known as FTD-MND). Recent studies suggest that FTD-MND is more common in familial MND. This project will investigate language disturbance – a prominent feature of FTD – in MND patients to establish whether such impairment predicts the development of FTD-MND.

Cognitive Training In Older Diabetic Persons At Risk Of Dementia: Cognitive And Non-cognitive Outcomes And The Role Of Concurrent Neuropsychiatric Symptoms

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $372,797.00
    Summary
Older people with diabetes have a higher chance of developing cognitive decline and dementia. Certain types of cognitive training were found to be effective for those at higher risk for dementia, but these treatments have not been tried on diabetic patients. This project will examine the impact of a cognitive training treatment on diabetic patients. It will examine its effectiveness in this group and some of the characteristics that may predict who responds best to the treatment.

Improving Clinical Diagnosis Of Mild Neurocogntive Disorders Using Neuropsychological Assessment

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $155,932.00
    Summary
A major proportion of neuropsychiatric disability in old age is due to dementia or milder cognitive disorders. However, these disorders can be challenging to diagnose because of the subtlety of cognitive deficits and a lack of appropriate normative reference groups. By developing comprehensive, representative Australian normative data for key diagnostic measures and refining clinical diagnostic methods, the study will have a major impact on the accuracy of neuropsychological assessment practice.

Interaction Of Amyloid-beta And Tau Pathology In Alzheimer's Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $122,592.00
    Summary
Currently, over 200,000 Australians are affected by Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related forms of dementia, causing a huge socio-economic damage. To overcome the lack of effective treatments, we need to understand the underlying causes and translate them into therapy. Using state-of-the-art cell culture and genetic mouse models, I will reveal fundamental processes in AD and related dementias, and develop tailored treatments to battle these devastating disorders.

Investigations Into The Onset And Persistence Of Severe Health Anxiety (hypochondriasis), And The Development Of Innovative Psychological Interventions

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $313,096.00
    Summary
This program of research will investigate the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural factors that are involved in the onset and persistence of severe health anxiety (hypochondriasis). It will also test the effectiveness of innovative psychological interventions for the disorder.

Association Between Sirtuin Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms And Functional Markers Of Brain Health In Ageing

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $311,860.00
    Summary
Sirtuins are histone deacetylases that have been reported to play a pivotal role in energy expenditure, mitochondrial function and pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders and Alzheimer’s disease in particular. In this study, we will focus on the genes encoding sirtuin families, and examined the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms within genes encoding sirtuin families and functional markers for brain health.

Cognitive Factors In Youth That Increase Vulnerability To Social Phobia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $313,976.00
    Summary
I am a psychologist focused on identifying the patterns of thinking of young people that make them vulnerable to developing a chronic and debilitating anxiety disorder known as social phobia. To do this, I will measure a range of thinking patterns of a sample of youth over time, and see which patterns are characteristic of those individuals who do develop social phobia. By identifying these particular thinking patterns, we will be able to identify youth who need preventative interventions.
