2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

A Randomised Controlled Trial Of A Community-based Weight Management Intervention In Obese Adolescents

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $79,534.00
    Summary
This research will explore various aspects of managing overweight and obesity in adolescence, including a review of previous studies. The central focus will be participants' weight, health and behavioral outcomes in a randomised controlled trial of a community-based weight management program for 13-16 year olds. A focus group study will be conducted to increase understanding of parent-adolescent communication regarding overweight and the decision to seek treatment.

Could Pharmacological Restoration Of Mecp2 Levels Be Of Therapeutic Value In Rett Syndrome?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Summary
Rett syndrome is one of the commonest single gene cause of developmental disability in girls; 1:8500 Australian females are affected by the age of 12. There is currently no cure. Rett syndrome most commonly results from a fault in one copy of the Mecp2 gene on the X chromosome. The proposed research aims to identify medicines, already known to be safe in children and adults, which specifically improve the functioning of the Mecp2 gene. This should rapidly lead to targeted clinical treatments for .... Renal Programming Effects Of Maternal Obesity

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $74,232.00
    Summary
The prevalence of maternal obesity is alarmingly high in Australia and the western world. However, there is little understanding of how obesity of the mother affects the development of the kidney of the fetus and, in turn, how this affects the risk of these offspring developing cardiovascular and renal disease in adulthood. I hope to address the gaps in this knowledge in my studies. This information is critical in order to develop appropriate health care to those born to obese mothers.

Obesity And Atrial Fibrillation: Arrhythmogenic Effects Of Generalised And Localised Adiposity

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $79,514.00
    Summary
Obesity is a growing epidemic in Australia. Whilst it is well known that obesity has many detrimental cardiovascular effects, our understanding of how it affects the electrical conduction system of the heart remains incomplete. The present study will characterise both the relationship between generalised obesity and heart rhythm disorders, and also the relevance of differing fat deposits - such as the fat layer around the heart _ on the electrical conduction system of the heart.

Effectiveness, Cost-effectiveness And Equity Of Strategies To Reduce The Burden Of Obesity-related Conditions

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $46,900.00
    Summary
Decision-makers need a systematic, coordinated approach to the targeting and prioritisation of preventive strategies. But the evidence base for obesity interventions is for the most part small, narrow in approach, limited in impact, and lacking in cost-effectiveness and equity information. This thesis will add to the evidence base regarding the nature of the obesity epidemic in Australia and internationally and the relative cost-effectiveness of strategies to reduce the obesity burden.
