Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a debilitating developmental disorder affecting around 1% of Australians. This research involves a series of cohesive studies utilising internationally unique population samples, to investigate the relationship between increased prenatal androgen exposure, enlarged head circumference, ASD behavioural traits, and genetic variants. This research aims to reveal new information about the biological and genetic mechanisms underpinning ASD.
Exploring The Neuropathophysiology Of Autism Spectrum Disorders

Summary
There are currently no validated biomedical techniques for diagnosing or treating autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This project will use cutting-edge neuroscience techniques to better understand the neurobiology of ASD and how neurobiological impairments relate to specific symptoms. These results will promote a better understanding of the brain basis of ASD, and may provide realistic targets for the development of new biomedical methods for diagnosis and treatment.
Fighting Mental Disorders: Using Mental Imagery To Disarm Symptoms And Enhance Treatment.

This proposal will conduct the first pre-clinical and clinical research utilising mental imagery to disarm symptoms and enhance treatment of multiple mental disorders by controlling the strength of mental imagery. This fellowship represents the first attempt to alleviate symptoms by developing a cognitive-neuroscience method to control the strength of traumatic imagery and to show a causative means of enhancing imagery strength to boost the success rate of cognitive therapy involving imagery.
Improving Diagnosis Of Early Frontotemporal Dementia Syndromes

Summary
Frontotemporal dementia is difficult to identify and diagnose accurately, although it is almost as common as Alzheimer’s disease before the age of 65. Improving its detection and diagnostic accuracy is the focus of my fellowship for the next 4 years. As a neuropsychologist with over 15 years clinical experience in dementia, I will combine clinical, neuroimaging and neuropathological approaches to identify early presentations of frontotemporal dementia and other dementia syndromes.
