The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Bayesian statistics provides a unified and versatile approach to problems of data analysis, inference and hypothesis testing. This project will involve the application of Bayesian methods to four topics of commercial and scientific importance in the fields of Genomics and Comparative Genomics. The four topics are: data analysis for a novel DNA sequencing technology, investigating genomic structure using multiple change-point analysis, phlogenetic inference with multiple genes and detection of incongruent phylogenies. The overall goal of the project is to advance understanding of the structure, function and evolution of genomes.Read moreRead less
Nonlinear Econometric Modelling: A Complex Systems Perspective. It is becoming increasingly accepted that economic systems are both complex and adaptive. It is becoming increasingly accepted that economic systems are both complex and adaptive. However, this introduces a range of problems in constructing, estimating and testing economic models using time series data. In this project, this problem will be addressed through the formulation and implementation of a new methodology and associated techniques. These techniques will allow a researcher to use information obtained from a set of nonlinearity tests to determine which type of nonlinear model provides the best representation of a data generating mechanism. Selected high frequency financial and macroeconomic data (for the US and Australia) will be used in the study. This research is intended to change the direction and emphasis of econometric modelling and promises to have a fundamental impact on forecasting and policy evaluation methods.

Uncertain Intellectual Property Rights and Start-Up Commercialisation Strategy. This project will consider a perviously unexploited fact about the patent process: that there is a lag between patent application and patent granting during which important trade in ideas (e.g., licensing or other cooperative agreements) can take place. At both theoretical and empirical, we will attempt to understand the drivers of pre-patent licensing and its impact on Coasian bargaining. The aim is to better unders ....Uncertain Intellectual Property Rights and Start-Up Commercialisation Strategy. The aim is to better understand the effects of uncertain property rights on the efficient operation of markets for ideas.Read moreRead less
Understanding market mechanisms and determinants of transaction costs to achieve greater efficiency in Australian fixed-income markets. This project will provide information to policymakers and regulators, enabling the evolution of optimal fixed-income markets, with significant benefits for individuals and the national economy. These benefits will be both short-term (current wealth) and long-term (retirement saving). It will promote Australia as the leader in constructing optimal fixed-income ma ....Understanding market mechanisms and determinants of transaction costs to achieve greater efficiency in Australian fixed-income markets. This project will provide information to policymakers and regulators, enabling the evolution of optimal fixed-income markets, with significant benefits for individuals and the national economy. These benefits will be both short-term (current wealth) and long-term (retirement saving). It will promote Australia as the leader in constructing optimal fixed-income markets, which can be applied to similar markets around the world. Finally, training research students will develop research infrastructure in Australia, and contribute to produce a generation of specialists who will increase Australia's international standing in financial research and its ability to manage an increasingly complex economy.Read moreRead less

Modern economies are being transformed by several waves of new, converging general purpose technologies such as information technology, biotechnology and nanotechnologies. This project will undertake a comparative analysis of four aspects of this process: the pattern of development and convergence, the extent of industry concentration of activity in particular regions, the implications for firm strategy and options for policy responses. The underlying objective is to provide a knowledge base for Australian firms and governments, to guide strategies to enable Australia to develop a competitive position in these emerging technologies and industries.Read moreRead less
Increasing the effectiveness of quantitative verification. The ability to analyse the performance of complex systems and protocols is a vital part of the development of large-scale computer applications. Methods that improve the effectiveness of the analysis task would increase the competitiveness of the software industry, and would attract future development work (in complex systems) to Australia. The results of this project will have a direct influence on currently available design tools; the fact that Australian institutions will be (in part) responsible for key theoretical results in this growing field will strengthen Australia's position worldwide as an international centre for computer science.Read moreRead less

International exchanges of knowledge, temporary skilled labour movements, and Australia's economic growth. It is known that skilled labour is a significant source of economic growth as it creates new knowledge and innovation, and that Australia, like other countries, uses policies to attract skilled migrants. It is less known however that thousands of skilled workers also migrate temporarily, often to exchange knowledge. Whilst the effect of permanent migration is widely researched, this project ....International exchanges of knowledge, temporary skilled labour movements, and Australia's economic growth. It is known that skilled labour is a significant source of economic growth as it creates new knowledge and innovation, and that Australia, like other countries, uses policies to attract skilled migrants. It is less known however that thousands of skilled workers also migrate temporarily, often to exchange knowledge. Whilst the effect of permanent migration is widely researched, this project will examine the economic impact of short-term labour movements. Using data from DIMIA and surveying temporary migrants, this project will analyse the consequences of temporary labour movements on Australia's innovation ability, productivity and economic growth, contributing to develop migration policy.Read moreRead less

The project applies an innovative social sciences framework to an analysis of how Indigenous community organisations in remote Australia can better develop capacity to maximise the sustainable benefits of adjacent long-life mines. The roles of mining companies, governments and other stakeholders, as well as Indigenous organisations, in maintaining social capital within communities experiencing development strain associated with economic, social and environmental impacts of mining will be investigated. The project will make an important theoretical contribution to refining an emerging framework that includes the key element 'social capital'. Practical recommendations for policy change that facilitate better socio-economic outcomes will be provided.Read moreRead less

The project seeks to explain the interaction between policies that affect human capital investment and the consequences of that investment for economic growth. Specifically it aims to incorporate recent developments in the theory of economic growth, and in particular a schooling sector that produces human capital, into a multi-country and multi sector model. This will overcome limitations of the current state of growth theory, associated with the high level of aggregation used in growth models - such as the effects of sector specific research subsidies research, and the effects of education subsidies on the growth of human capital specific sectors.Read moreRead less
