2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Development of domain information model for aged & community care in Australia. The aim of this research is to develop a care-oriented reference information and communication model (RIM) that will inform national policy for the development of a national information technology strategic plan for aged care. The model will reflect the domain specific content and work of service providers and consumers in the aged and community care context and the unique cultural, social and professional attributes of this sector. The model will be used to evaluate the applicability of the HealthOnline framework, including the relevance of emerging interoperability standards to the aged and community care sector.

Sustaining Oral And Systemic Health In Residential Aged Care Facilities

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $181,065.00
    Summary
Poor oral health is associated with many health problems. Community of Practice members will educate nurse-carer champions who then train direct care staff. The care staff will oversee 2-minutes of teeth cleaning after meals using regular or timed electric toothbrushes, or daily denture care. There will be audits of daily oral care by nurse-carer champions assisted by students, examination of used toothbrushes, regular analyses of gum-based oral bacteria.

Gotta Be Sit Down And Worked Out Together- A Program For Carers Of Older People In Aboriginal Communities

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,742,188.00
    Summary
"Gotta be sit down and worked out together" is a participatory program for carers of older people with physical and mental health problems who live in remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley. This project aims to assist community carers to select, develop and implement programs to address their unmet health needs, utilising a community based participatory action research approach. The program emphasises the need to foster empowerment, improve psychological well being and carer burden.

Diagnosing Major Depression In Older Australian Adults: Is There Evidence For Age-related Bias?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $202,839.00
    Summary
Epidemiological studies have consistently indicated that the prevalence of depression decreases with increasing age. Researchers have debated whether this finding is a real age-dependent decline or an artefact of sampling and assessment. This study seeks to use statistical methods and cognitive interviewing to investigate the potential for age-related bias in the criteria for major depression. Understanding Frailty In Older People: An Epidemiological Insight

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $314,644.00
    Summary
We need to find better and more efficient ways to identify older people at risk of poor outcomes. The measurement of frailty, a key concept in geriatric medicine, may provide this exact information. The proposed research will investigate frailty in large-scale population datasets across both community and hospital settings. Results can be used to guide patient management, influence public health policy and inform future intervention studies.

Reaching The Tenth Decade Of Life In Australia – A 20-year Longitudinal Study Of Older Men

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $890,063.00
    Summary
There are increasing numbers of older people in Australia. A boy born in Australia in 2015 may expect to live to 92 years but how we will ensure that the health of these older men is maintained, and that ageing is a positive experience, is not yet known. We will study a large group of men initially aged over 65 years of age, and who have already been followed for 20 years, to work out how Australian men can reach the tenth decade of life, and how they can achieve this milestone successfully. .

Molecular Pathways Linking Nutrition And Age-related Health

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $376,012.00
    Summary
Nutrition is the major modifiable factor that influences age-related health. Yet the relationships between nutrition, age-related health and underlying biological mechanisms are complex and poorly understood. We will tame this complexity by applying nutritional geometry and systems biology to nutrient sensing pathways and ageing phenotype across a macronutrient landscape. This will allow us to optimise diets and develop drugs to improve age-related health and extend healthspan.

Long Term Evaluation Of Uptake, Impact And Outcomes Of The 75+ Health Assessment

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $204,897.00
    Summary
This project will evaluate uptake, outcomes and costs of the 75+ Health Assessment using data from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) linked to Medicare data. The ALSWH provides prospective data through regular surveys, and these longitudinal data will allow comprehensive evaluation from the introduction of the assessments through to their longer term outcomes in very old age.

Intergenerational Change In Oral Health In Australia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $566,827.00
    Summary
Australia's population is ageing and Australians are retaining more teeth in later life. It is expected that as life expectancy increases, more years of life are spend in good health, with disease and disability being postponed to later years of life. No evidence is available to test the compression of morbidity hypothesis in relation to oral health in older Australians. This study will test whether these changes have resulted in more years in good oral health in an elderly population.

Mood Regulation Using Music: A Community Health Strategy For Improving Quality Of Life In People With Mild Dementia

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $601,540.00
    Summary
This research aims to improve quality of life in people with dementia via community-based strategies for managing depression using music. The impetus comes from my prior research which shows that depression affects both the way people use music and its impact on the listener, a factor not considered in previous studies. Findings will lay the ground for development of an online tool for promoting effective self-regulation of mood with music for use by patients and caregivers in multiple settings.
