Historical frontier violence: drivers, legacy and the role of truth-telling. This project aims to build data to identify the historical factors that incited frontier violence; quantify the legacy on communities today and conduct fieldwork to understand how historical trauma is transmitted across generations. This project expects to develop new knowledge on the circumstances and legacy of settlement and the origins of gaps in life prospects between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. An Integrated Analysis of the Social Context of Indigenous Poverty. The project will identify the processes that improve Indigenous participation in social and economic life of the nation-an important pre-condition for a lasting reconciliation between indigenous and other Australians. The new poverty benchmarks developed will provide evidence about the adequacy of income support payments with associated implications for child welfare. Summary
New household economics and the earnings and labour supply of Indigenous Australians. By linking individuals' labour market outcomes with those of their family members and studying career progress, the project provides new insights on the factors that determine labour supply and earnings for Indigenous Australians. It will also offer a foundation for recommendations for overcoming Indigenous Australian's labour market disadvantages.
Mental-health intervention and non-urban detection screen project. If, as expected, there is a positive return-on-investment to employers for mental health screening and early intervention, employers will adopt these methodologies. This eases the burden on the public health system. Early intervention reduces hospitalisations and the psychiatric medications prescribed resulting in decreased MBS and PBS spending.
