Summary
Rottnest Island as Black Prison and White Playground: A case study of the problems and prospects for Reconciliation in Australia. Many Australians are committed to Reconciliation. This project seeks to build on this commitment by finding out why the attempts to establish appropriate commemoration of the deaths of hundreds of Aboriginal and boys in the Rottnest Island Prison up to 1931 have so far been unsuccessful. The project will uncover new ways to advance the cause of Reconciliation and will ....Rottnest Island as Black Prison and White Playground: A case study of the problems and prospects for Reconciliation in Australia. Many Australians are committed to Reconciliation. Time and timelessness in Aboriginal societies as exemplified in Ngarinyin body-imagery. My project is an investigation of northern Kimberley trading practices, arguing against some pervasive views in the Aboriginalist literature which cast Aboriginal people and cultures as emphasising timelessness and de-emphasising human creativity. Kimberley trading/sharing practices, I suggest, show that exchanges (at various levels of formality) between groups and individuals are locally experienced as an ac ....Time and timelessness in Aboriginal societies as exemplified in Ngarinyin body-imagery. Kimberley trading/sharing practices, I suggest, show that exchanges (at various levels of formality) between groups and individuals are locally experienced as an active and ongoing participation in the creation of the bodies of kin and of the country itself. This is done in a way which actively participates in, rather than merely reproduces, the creative travels of the first ancestral beings. A history of the Gugu Badhun people. The aim of this one year project is to reconstruct relations between the Gugu Badhun people and settler families from the time of first encounters with Europeans to the restructuring of the pastoral industry in the late 1960s. There is an urgency to this research in that it aims to record and analyse the experiences and knowledge of Elders and non-indigenous members of pastoral families who are elderly and in frail health. TOWARD ANANGU PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES TO TRANSMISSION OF KNOWLEDGE AND PARALLEL EDUCATIONAL PARADIGMS: Song-cycle from senior women of the Antikirinya/Yankuntjatjara community. The need for understanding Anangu pedagogical approaches to transmission of knowledges is toward an Australian priority to develop schooling that upholds Indigenous interests. The structure of the project calls for a comprehensive literature review and data collection via interviews around Anangu Song-Cycle. Engagement with learning across the lifespan and increased literacy skills among early school leavers and other young adults will have direct benefits to remote Indigenous communities and to the nation. There are not many Elders left in my family and I believe that it is important for their stories to be told to the wider community and also as a record for the younger generation of my family to have as a tribute to our people.
