Summary
This project will apply advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to understand how brain abnormalities in preterm infants relate to their functional impairments. It aims to: develop new software to easily and accurately measure infant brain structures and tissues; understand the neurobiological basis for adverse outcomes, enabling diagnosis of high risk preterm infants; and identify MRI biomarkers to assess interventions designed to give Australian babies a healthier start to life.
Neurodevelopmental Risk Factors For Depression From Childhood To Early Adulthood

Summary
To understand who is at risk for depression, we need to understand how both the environment and biological factors promote risk at specific times in the life cycle. This research project will examine such risk factors in different phases of life (from in utero to early adulthood) using a developmental framework. The results of this research will provide a clearer basis for the design of prevention strategies that target individuals, their families and/or broader environmental factors.
Early Detection And Intervention For Infants At High Risk Of Motor Impairments

Summary
My proposed research program involves several distinct yet related projects addressing i) early detection and ii) early intervention for infants at high risk of movement problems including cerebral palsy. This research will provide the highest quality evidence base that is needed to identify those children most at risk early in development and improve our understanding of which interventions are most effective, so that scare health care resources can be targeted appropriately.

Summary
Biostatistics is a critical component of health and medical research, especially for studies in population health. However, there is an increasing gap between supply and demand for high-level biostatistical input. This proposal combines novel methodological research into methods for analysing incomplete data, with collaborative research applying new ideas and complex analyses to important health problems. The fellowship will facilitate my development as a future leader in this key area.
