This project aims to address long-term unemployment and labour market exclusion of disadvantaged and vulnerable groups by generating new employer-led solutions. This project aims to address long-term unemployment and labour market exclusion of disadvantaged and vulnerable groups by generating new employer-led solutions. The project expects to create, with employers, successful strategies for recruiting disadvantaged workers into better quality jobs, and to co-produce best practice employer engagement toolkits and minimum job quality standards. Anticipated outcomes include increasing the success of government-funded employment programs by improving employment opportunities and reducing cycling between work and welfare. Significant benefits for disadvantaged groups, businesses and society will result in increased employee wellbeing, organisational performance and economic competitiveness.

    Exceptional teachers for disadvantaged schools: A longitudinal study of graduates at work in low socio-economic status schools. Recruiting and retaining quality teachers for disadvantaged schools is a persistent problem of international significance. Building on a successful partnership with Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment, this project aims to investigate how graduates from a unique teacher education program - designed to prepare quality teachers for schools situated .... Exceptional teachers for disadvantaged schools: A longitudinal study of graduates at work in low socio-economic status schools. Recruiting and retaining quality teachers for disadvantaged schools is a persistent problem of international significance. Building on a successful partnership with Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment, this project aims to investigate how graduates from a unique teacher education program - designed to prepare quality teachers for schools situated in low socio-economic communities - perceive, recognise and enact ‘quality’ in their practice. The project merges theory on disadvantage with school-based practice and evidence of impact to develop theorisations of how early career teachers understand and enact quality teaching. The findings have implications for policy and practice in teacher education and capacity building.

Underpinned by a unique learning partnership, this project is expected to shed light on how decent and inclusive work through social enterprise can be grown. Project insights will contribute to more effective employment services and workplaces that increase the shared benefits of a diverse workforce.
