From foraging to farming. Human adaptations during major transitions. This project aims to investigate the causes that led to the human demographic explosion occurred during the Neolithic Revolution by analysing dental tissues through cutting-edge methods. Aboriginal art history and tradition in the West Kimberley region, Western Australia: Representations and constructions of place, space and identity. There is a paucity of research on the topic of Aboriginal art history in the West Kimberley coast. This project aims to investigate how Aboriginal art styles have been influenced by European settlement and ideas during the last century in this region. From scientific specimen to Indigenous cultural property: the collection and use of Indigenous DNA samples since the 1960s. This anthropological and historical project will explore the provenance and present use of DNA samples collected from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. It will produce a new conceptual framework that will inform the conduct of genetic research in Indigenous communities and the governance of Indigenous sample collections and biobanks.
Pacific futures and second generation transnationalism: a Tongan case study. As Australia considers its role in the Pacific it is imperative to understand the changing transnational ties of Pacific Islanders. A decline in ties such as remittances will have far-reaching implications for vulnerable Island economies and societies, and this study of 'second generation? Angulimala walks - from understanding violence in Cambodia to building cultural competence in Australian international development. The purpose of this project is to make sure that people affected by violence in formerly war-torn countries like Cambodia (including those who migrated to Australia) are helped in culturally appropriate ways. The project will lead to a framework for 'cultural competence' to be used by Australia's international development and health sectors.

Good communication, mutual understanding and sound working relationships between Indonesian and Australian elites are vital for maintaining fruitful diplomatic relations.
