The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Proteins are critically important in the onset and ongoing illness associated with disease. Key proteins may serve as markers to diagnose or predict the course of a disease, or even become the target of pharmaceuticals. Accurate, efficient and robust algorithms are a critical component in protein identification. This research provides novel statistical algorithms for protein identification using multiscale analysis techniques. Their applications in the bio-medical field will enable Australian and international researchers to identify key proteins more accurately, than current methods, leading to improve health, medical, and biological research outcomes.Read moreRead less

Understanding gene regulatory networks is critical in the understanding of fundamental biological systems. These networks have important implications for the discovery of fundamental mechanisms relating to the diagnosis and management of many illnesses. This research will provide new statistical methods to identify regulatory micro-ribonucleic acid modules and to understand their relationship in gene regulatory networks through multiple covariance estimation and multivariate classification techniques. Summary
Scalable Bayesian model selection for massive data sets. This project will develop highly innovative, efficient and ultimately effective methodology for Bayesian model selection for large-scale problems which commonly arise in biostatistics and bioinformatics. The resulting methodology will dramatically reduce the duration of analyses in these areas from days or weeks to minutes or hours.

Statistical tools for assessing effects of environmental change. This project aims to develop statistical tools for improving prediction of environmental exceedances, such as atmospheric carbon dioxide sources and sinks. Predicting extreme environmental conditions or events is crucial for effective environmental decision-making and management. This project aims to develop statistical tools for improving prediction of environmental exceedances, such as atmospheric carbon dioxide sources and sinks. Predicting extreme environmental conditions or events is crucial for effective environmental decision-making and management. The project will develop the tools using statistical inference based on a statistical model that combines predictions from related scientific models. In the case of carbon dioxide, improving prediction reliability by reducing bias and uncertainty whilst accounting for model-based dependence is an important step toward mitigating carbon dioxide sources and protecting carbon dioxide sinks. This capability is crucial for adaptive planning and a resilient society.Read moreRead less

By their very nature, environmental processes involve strong spatial and temporal variability. Inferring cause-effect relationships requires the incorporation of spatial and temporal dependence in the statistical models. The aims of this project are to develop mass-balanced hierarchical spatio-temporal statistical models, new loss functions that are relevant to multivariate processes, and optimal estimators obtained from the hierarchical model's predictive distribution. These methodologies are intended to be applied to the estimation of near-surface fluxes of atmospheric carbon dioxide, using massive remote sensing datasets from satellites and other data sources.Read moreRead less
Semiparametric Regression for Streaming Data. Semiparametric regression converts large and complex data-sets into interpretable summaries from which sound decisions can be made. This project tackles semiparametric regression analysis of streaming data - where the data are so voluminous that they may not be storable in standard computer memory and therefore need to be processed rapidly on arrival and then discarded. Effective solutions necessitate a rethinking of semi-parametric regression and new approaches will be developed. The project will also develop novel theory and methodology for robotics applications. It will allow analysis of streaming and massive data sets that would not be possible using currently available methods, opening up new applications.Read moreRead less

Modelling the Choices of Individuals. Individuals make decisions daily and some of these decisions have wide-reaching and long-term consequences, such as choices among housing, public transport, electoral candidates and health care options. Individuals make decisions daily and some of these decisions have wide-reaching and long-term consequences, such as choices among housing, public transport, electoral candidates and health care options. The principal aim of this project is to develop reliable and valid ways to model individual level choice processes. Once completed, this will provide insights into ways to aggregate sampled observations when population-level applications are required, and allow us to compare and test several competing theories of choice behaviour. This will enable us to make contributions to understanding and modelling human decision making in many fields ranging from marketing to medicine.Read moreRead less
