The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Advanced issues in market segmentation research. We will investigate unresolved questions in market segmentation research that will provide answers to the following questions as outcome:
- How to pre-assess market segmentation data structure.
- How to improve the partitioning.
- How to visualize and present the resulting segmentation solutions.
- How to generalize the outcomes over multiple periods of time.

- How to pre-assess market segmentation data structure.
- How to improve the partitioning.
- How to visualize and present the resulting segmentation solutions.
- How to generalize the outcomes over multiple periods of time.
These tasks represent fundamental methodological research. The scientific significance consequently lies in knowledge development and methodological improvement. Findings will also enable both academic researchers using market segmentation methodology as well as practitioners applying such techniques to significantly improve the quality of their market structure analyses.Read moreRead less

Many issues affect the social progress of the country. Social research can determine the factors affecting issues such as unemployment, poverty, educational attainment, crime victimization and poor health. Survey and other data are used extensively to examine these conditions and their association with attributes of people. This project will provide methods to better determine the impact of effects associated with the household structure and other groups and social networks. The improved ability to assess the impact of these factors will have economic and social benefits. These benefits will arise from improved analysis leading to better decisions and improvements in the design of research studies improving their cost efficiency.Read moreRead less

One in five Australians will experience a mental illness. This project will facilitate a new method for: (1) brain researchers to advance the fundamental understanding of mental illnesses and brain disorders; (2) medical clinicians to diagnose and assess the growing incidence of mental illness confronting Australia's ageing population, thereby addressing the ageing well and ageing productively national research priority; and, (3) neurosurgeons to guide surgery via localisation of major neural tracts. In addition to contributing to the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of Australia's endemic mental health burden, this project will advance Australia's skill-base and international standing in basic scientific research.Read moreRead less
Response style heterogeneity in empirical marketing research. This study aims to improve the validity of empirical studies by accounting for different ways in which respondents answer questionnaires (response styles) while analysing the data. Response styles have been shown to depend on the cultural background of respondents. This work therefore is of particular importance in Australia given the large number of cultural backgrounds residents come from. The proposed method will be empirically tested in the context of surveys investigating sustainable tourism, public acceptance of alternative water sources and volunteering, three areas which are central to maintaining Australia's environmental sustainability and providing social and environmental services which are not covered by the commercial sector.Read moreRead less
Development of Knowledge Discovery for High Dimensional Biomedical Data. The recent progress in experimental techniques of molecular genetics has made available a wealth of genome data and raised the interest for analysis of DNA sequences. As the human and mouse genome projects are in a phase of systematic sequencing, computational tools based on concepts used in science fields have recently played a prominent role. Significant contributions to this project will increasingly depend upon original application and development of algorithms for the analysis of genomic data, and of the computational systems that support them. These challenges have fostered major progress in computer science, leading to collaborative research of global significance.Read moreRead less
Effect of Chemo-Mechanical Grinding on Surface Integrity of Single Crystal Silicon Substrates. Silicon substrates or wafers are extensively used in electronic and optic/photonic industries. Silicon substrates or wafers are extensively used in electronic and optic/photonic industries. A long-time standing problem in silicon wafer machining is the surface and subsurface damage induced by machining. This may significantly affect the mechanical, optical and electronic characteristics of wafer-based components. The issue becomes increasingly more critical as the application of silicon wafers is extending further as structural components. The research outcomes will contribute an improved understanding of Chemo Mechanical Grinding process and help to develop innovative technologies for silicon industries.Read moreRead less
Japan, Australia and the Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT) Fishery: Social and Political Perspectives. In 1999 negotiations over the annual tonnage of the SBT fishery allocated to Japan broke down over disagreements about how much fishing effort SBT stocks could survive. Australia resorted to the international legal system and, although Australia eventually accepted Japan's position, bilateral relations have remained troubled over SBT. Australian public perceptions of the fishery tend to be hostile, especially towards the Japanese side. IN order to achieve a balance between economics and sustainability, fisheries must be managed, and management may be hampered by social and political problems. This project provides social science research to facilitate effective management of SBT.Read moreRead less

The CI and his international collaborator have recently proposed a new principle of design of materials and structures based on topological interlocking of constituent elements. Elements of simple shape, such as tetrahedra, are assembled in structures that keep their integrity without any binder or connectors. Unusual properties, such as high fracture toughness and damage tolerance were found. The project aims at investigating the mechanical and acoustic properties of the newly discovered interlockable geometries (cubes, octahedra, dodecahedra and icosahedra) and identifying the areas of application. The project will promote the international leading role of the collaborating institutions in this novel field.Read moreRead less

In the next five years, four new satellite-based navigation and positioning systems, called Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), will come to challenge/complement the well-known US global positioning system (GPS). In order to get the highest accuracy and most reliable results from these GNSSs, a procedure known as ambiguity resolution (AR) is essential. This collaborative project will bring Professor Peter Teunissen, the inventor of the famous LAMBDA method that is currently used in all GPS AR software, to Australia to work on AR for a combined new GNSS AR solution that is also optimised for Australian users. The aim of this project is to develop inkjet printing technology to facilitate the freeform fabrication of nanomaterials. The application of nanomaterials will lead to breakthroughs in information technology, health, the environment and energy generation and storage. This project will develop the methods required to inkjet print nanomaterials into multilayered components. This is a multifunctional rapid prototyping technology that synthesises components directly from computer solid models and radically compresses the time from concept to delivery. The outcome of this project will be a fabrication facility which will enable us to make and test nanoscale materials and components made from them.Read moreRead less
