2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Projecting Prevalence By Phase Of Care For Colorectal, Lung, Breast And Prostate Cancer In New South Wales

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $330,848.00
    Summary
Cancer will become the top health issue in Australia due to the growth and ageing of the population. Accurate estimates of the numbers of people in the community at the different stages of their cancer journey (phases of care) now and in the future are required to plan for and provide adequate cancer care services. We will develop statistical models to estimate and predict cancer prevalence by phase of care for four major cancers in New South Wales.

Using The Results Of Genome Wide Association Studies To Reduce The Burden Of Disease: A Case For Type II Diabetes?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $332,255.00
    Summary
Only half of those with type II diabetes (T2D) have been diagnosed. The delay allows for the progression of associated problems like blindness, cardiovascular disease and heart failure. Advances in genetics have helped identify genes increasing the risk of T2D. Using this information, we see whether we can predict if someone will develop the disease. We then determine whether a test at birth followed by preventive measures reduces the problems associated with T2D and helps people live longer.

Healthy Heart, Healthy Brain - Using Genetic Data To Investigate The Causal Relationship Between Cardiovascular And Neurodegenerative Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $191,261.00
    Summary
There is growing evidence supporting a strong association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) with neurodegenerative disease. However, evidence from observational studies has been inconsistent. This project will use genetic data to investigate this link. The project outcomes may point to new avenues for research and prevention, whereby lifestyle modifications pharmaceutical interventions which decrease CVD might also hold promise for reducing the burden of neurodegenerative disease.

Genome-wide Association Studies Of Biomedical Traits And Endophenotypes For Complex Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $295,804.00
    Summary
The burden of common complex diseases, such as cardiovascular disease is substantial to the health care system. These diseases are caused by genes and environments as well as their interactions. The proposed project will identify genes affecting the susceptibility of individuals to complex diseases. Discovery of such genes will be important for their diagnosis, prevention and treatment and may serve as an important resource for future personalized medicine.

Investigating The Interplay Of Gene And Environment In Childhood And Adolescent Mental Health

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $386,298.00
    Summary
Mental health and substance use disorders account for 60-70% of the overall disease burden among young Australians. This research aims to fully explore the gene-environment interplay in childhood and adolescent mental health. The potential outcomes of this research include: improved understanding of genetic and environmental architecture for single disorder, and the high comorbidity between disorders; guidance for personalised intervention based on one’s genetic background.

Finding Genetic Risk Markers For Endometrial And Other Cancers

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $370,668.00
    Summary
Studies investigating thousands of genetic markers have revolutionised our understanding of genes involved in cancer. They have also shown that a single gene can be associated with multiple cancers. This project will discover new genes involved in endometrial cancer by detailed genetic analysis, and investigate the genetic similarities between endometrial cancer and different cancers. Results will improve the understanding of cancer and provide opportunity to discover future cancer treatments.

Investigating The Genetic Correlation Underlying The Developmental Origins Of Health And Disease

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $314,644.00
    Summary
The prevalence of cardiovascular disease and diabetes is increasing and the financial burden on society is substantial. Research has shown a link between birth weight and increased risk of these diseases. Genetics may be involved as not all individuals born of suboptimal weight go on to develop disease. This research will identify genes that jointly affect birth weight and future risk of adult disease, leading to a better understanding of the biological relationship between the two.
