Place, taste and tradition: A history of ideas about heritage in Western Australia as a foundation for change. An Australian will lead an international team to reclaim the massive but neglected Latin-language culture of 18th-C Europe, restoring 'lost' authors influential in their day and assessing the contribution of Latin literary and scientific networks to Enlightenment culture. Our national conversation on the Enlightenment will expand from a near-exclusive focus on France and England to Italy and the Netherlands, countries of historical import ....Mapping the Latin Enlightenment: Centres and Peripheries. Irish Convicts and Early Australian Society: A Reassessment in Two hemispheres. Based on new archival research in Ireland and Australia and the development of a data bank comprising information on more than one thousand male and female Irish convicts who arrived on eight transports between 1800 and 1806, this project examines the process of transportation within the context of a much wider Irish diaspora in the Age of Revolutions. This project will inform present day land management strategies by assessing the extent to which the landscape at the time of European colonisation was an artefact of management practices of Indigenous people, . The strong Indigenous input, including the detailed recording and analysis of local knowledge together with evidence from archaeological, palaeoenvironmental and historical sources, will reinvigorate Aboriginal connections to ....Aboriginal landscape transformations in south-west Australia. The project will provide an enriched understanding of war commemoration, community meanings, the design of war memorials and recommendations of practical strategies for their interpretation and conservation. The research from this project will add to the social understanding of our national war commemorative practices, the connections between community meaning and memorial design and the importance of war memorials ....Remembering the Wars: Community Significance of Western Australian War Memorials. It also investigates for the first time the influence of medievalism on Australian war literature and cinema, exploring how common themes in the representation of Australian war - male group loyalty, anti-authoritarianism, self-sacrifice and posthumous honour - relate to medievalist traditions. Mussolini was the first politician, possessed of an image and myth aimed at the masses. Our international and interdisciplinary research will probe the processes of this cult. The project develops a regional framework within a fieldwork program of site survey and recording, analysis of documentary sources and oral testimony.
