Provincial Poets and the Making of a Nation. This project aims to rediscover, document and analyse prominent regional voices swept aside by the powerful forces constructing national identity in nineteenth-century France in order to argue for a more positive view of provincialism and challenge the division between central and peripheral cultures. Expected outcomes of this project include a more inclusive and representative literary canon, a new awareness of the crucial role of regional poets in t ....Provincial Poets and the Making of a Nation. This project aims to analyse the diffusion and the political and religious use of the concept of concord among humanists, philosophers, theologians, poets and political writers during the fourteenth and the fifteenth century in the Italian peninsula. Starting with a novel approach to the thought of the humanist Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, this analysis is expected to result in an enriched view of the Italian Renaissance, which will be re-assessed based on its contr ....Concord in the Renaissance. It investigates the secret life of secret police narratives of the Stasi from the time when they were still secrets in an archive to their public afterlife when they are exposed in fictional and non-fictional writing.
Literary romanticism and the media of romantic love: a cultural history, 1774-1840. This project will produce a groundbreaking cultural history of romantic love that analyses romantic love not as a feeling but as a code of communication. Correlating the democratisation of that code with the emergence of Romanticism, it will advance Romanticism Studies by examining how literary Romanticism mediates the culture of romantic love.
War, Violence, and Apocalyptic-Millenarianism in the Middle East: Talat Pasha and the Foundation of Modern Turkey, 1874-1921. This project considers the Young Turk Revolution of 1908, the Ottoman entry into the First World War on the side of the Axis powers, and the subsequent demise of the Ottoman Empire in a broad international context. It addresses matters of deep analytical import - state formation, political violence, and genocide - and the relationship between these elements.
