Summary
User driven interventions in the reduction of drug-related harm: analysing structural barriers and capacity building among drug user organisations. Although Australia's consumer-centred approach to harm reduction has been widely praised, consumer participation remains limited in countries such as Britain and Canada. Entailing an international comparative analysis of these three sites, this project focuses on building capacity and reducing structural barriers among drug user organisations.
Development and evaluation of a web-based decision and safety planning aid for women experiencing domestic violence (I-DECIDE). This project will develop and evaluate a web-based intervention process which enables women experiencing domestic violence to consider their safety planning and support options, reach a carefully thought through decision (reflecting their personal priorities) and then make appropriate plans safely for themselves and their children.

This project aims to quantify the relationship and interdependencies between risk factors and service utilisation among family homicide victims and offenders. These will be identified from an analysis of criminal justice and Coroners’ data on family homicide using Bayesian networks. Adolescents have little understanding and high levels of fear about HPV vaccination in the Australian school program. We plan to evaluate a multi-strategy intervention (incorporating an adolescent education intervention, a parental decision aid, and procedural facilitators) to promote uptake and informed participation in the school-based HPV vaccination program. The intervention will promote understanding, reduce fear, and have minimum impact on school and teacher resources.

This study is part of a large international collaboration to study whether policies directed at whole communities work as planned. We survey around 2000 smokers from each of 4 countries every year. We compare reactions of smokers in a country with a policy to those in a country without such a policy or with a different policy. We do this by following through the likely chain of effects to smoking cessation.
