Towards dignity-based knowledge practices in global health. When the dignity of its beneficiaries is not respected, especially their dignity as knowers, global health efforts in low-income settings perpetuate falsehoods and promote wrong interventions. This project aims to fill an urgent gap in the field of global health – how to institutionalise respect for beneficiaries’ dignity as knowers. There is little known about the experiences, needs and aspirations of Indigenous gender and/or sexuality diverse peoples in New South Wales. This means that government, corporate and community sectors lack information on how to secure their social, economic and cultural inclusion. While loneliness and despair are reportedly increasing due to social and economic upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, governments are investing in urban greening. This project aims to help steer greening strategies to reduce loneliness and despair, to enable recoveries from COVID-19 that are more sustainable, equitable and nourishing. Developing a research focus on the health and quality of life of adolescents in the Northern Territory. The Youth Futures program will focus on the health and well being of adolescents in the Northern Territory, 40 per cent of whom are Indigenous. This project will provide an evidence base to inform health policy, identify transformative life skills and the ways to translate these into practice.

Rethinking the dynamics of place in Warlpiri performance. This project will determine the dynamic ways in which Warlpiri people forge and negotiate connections to place in performance of ceremonial songs. Through collaborative research with Warlpiri people this project innovatively implements Indigenous methodological approaches which emphasise that Warlpiri singing traditions are multimodal and embodied in their practice.
