2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Addressing Therapeutic Challenges In Sleep Disorders

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $851,980.00
    Summary
The aim of this fellowship is to improve the health and well-being of Australians by reducing the burden of sleep and disorders that disrupt the body clock such as shift work. My program will involve different fields of research combining their efforts together to understand more about sleep apnea and insomnia, the two most common sleep disorders. By this strategy, better treatment for sleep disorders will be found with particular impact on our aging population

    Practitioner Fellowship - Grant ID:1022730

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $549,799.00
    Summary
Sleep loss through sleep deprivation and sleep disorders is a common problem causing impaired brain and heart function as well as increasing human errors in the workplace. The fellowship will involve new research focusing on how better treatment of sleep problems can reduce blood pressure, vascular disease and road crashes. Cutting edge research facilities will help new studies into how jet lag and shiftwork impair health and how to counter this risk.

A New Clinical Tool To Assess Fitness-to-drive In Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $727,963.00
    Summary
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) affects 1 in 4 middle aged adults. OSA results in impaired neurobehavioral function, excessive sleepiness, and more than 2-fold increased motor vehicle crash risk and workplace accidents. However, not all patients are impaired and identifying patients at risk is a daily clinical challenge. This project proposes new and simple measures that can accurately identify patients with OSA who are most vulnerable to alertness failure and motor vehicle accident risk.

Randomised Controlled Trial Of Melatonin For Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $711,136.00
    Summary
Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder (DSPD) is a sleep disorder affecting 7-16% of adolescents and young adults. It is associated with poor health and impaired academic and social functioning. We will test in a randomised controlled trial whether the hormone melatonin can be used as a treatment for DSPD. We will also assess whether genetic factors are linked to treatment outcome. The study will provide a much-needed standardised diagnostic and treatment approach for DSPD.

Optimal Management Of Children With Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $178,157.00
    Summary
Disorders of breathing during sleep affect over 1.5 million children in the Australian community and have negative impacts on cognitive functioning, behaviour and quality of life. Early identification and treatment is paramount to optimise the health of these children. My research focuses on prompt identification and appropriate treatment of breathing disorders during sleep, to enhance health care outcomes for individuals and health service provision.

Predicting Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Using 3D Craniofacial Photography

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $424,715.00
    Summary
Sleep Apnoea is a common medical condition associated with snoring and collapse of the throat during sleep. Diagnosis of sleep apnoea involves an overnight sleep study in a specialised laboratory, which is expensive and time consuming. It is possible that sleep apnea could be diagnosed from a 3-dimensional photograph of the face. This study will define the relationships between sleep apnea and 3D face photographs in 956 young adults and 1,200 of their parents, and 3,000 sleep clinic patients.

Improving Sleep To Reduce Dementia Risk

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $709,585.00
    Summary
My research will explore the pathophysiological mechanisms that link disturbed sleep and circadian rhythm with cognitive impairment and dementia. I will explore how sleep and circadian disruption in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) impact on body and brain vascular function. I will also explore whether OSA treatment and light therapy in MCI patients can arrest or even improve brain vascular function through improved sleep/circadian function.

Treatment Of Sleep And Respiratory Disorders

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $621,458.00
    Summary
My primary research focus is to understand the mechanisms underlying sleep-related breathing disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnoea, and develop better ways to diagnose and treat them. I also investigate physical therapies to improve the lives of people with chronic lung disease. Both sleep disorders and lung disease are extremely common in Australia. Improving the health and quality of life of these individuals has important personal benefit and social and economic benefits.
