2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Complete the 5 min survey now by clicking on the link below.

Synchrotron-based modelling of the deformation and fracture mechanism in normal and osteoporotic femurs under multiaxial loading cycles. The femur is a light-weight structure designed to best perform in life. However, the complex tissue architecture, microstructural organisation and its complex loading regimens make it difficult to understand how the femur can deform and fracture. This project studies femoral fractures by modelling the proximal femur with a micrometric level of detail. Synchrotron femur images are taken in loaded and unloaded conditions. Cortical strain and fracture are measured, replicating possible multiaxial loads. Micro finite-element models will be used to study the contribution that the bone tissue architecture, tissue structure and activity types make to the fracture. The resulting knowledge will have future orthopaedic applications.

Architectured ceramics to combine strength, toughness, and complex shapes. This project aims to develop ceramics that are simultaneously strong and tough, and to form them into complex shapes without compromising their mechanical properties – major challenges in science and engineering. Inspired by the internal architectures that confer these advantages on natural hard materials, it will produce novel ceramics with rationally-designed, highly-controlled dense architectures by developing a fast, scalable and versatile light-based 3D–4D printing technique combined with discrete element modelling. Outcomes will be toughened ceramics and new knowledge on processing-architecture-performance relationships, with significant benefits for biomaterials, defence, transport, high-temperature and aerospace applications.

    Summary
How T cells modulate stem cells and tissue regeneration. The project aims to determine how T cells modulate tissue repair and regeneration in mammals. Most of the mechanisms modulating the healing of tissues are elusive. This research is expected to reveal unknown mechanisms controlling the processes of tissue repair and regeneration, particularly the nexus between the stem cells involved in the tissue healing process and the immune response .
