This research will develop the understanding of deliberative democratic processes and test their applicability and capacity to address issues such as global justice and environmental governance in settings of deep cultural difference. Women's political participation, representation and well-being: learning from China's villages. Through a comparative study of Chinese villages, this project tests a framework for analysing the interplay between women's political representation and women's well-being. The project outcomes include new conceptual and methodological tools, strategies for enhancing gender equity in governance and development, and scholarly publications.
