    Summary
    Negative ion mass spectrometry: fundamentals and applied applications. 1. We seek to establish negative ion mass spectrometry as a major technological tool for the sequencing of peptides and proteins. In this context, we will investigate the structures and modes of action of peptide complexes which may be of importance for the treatment and control of heart disease and stroke. 2. Negative ions of known structure will be converted (in the mass spectrometer) into transient (and reactive) molecule .... Negative ion mass spectrometry: fundamentals and applied applications. 1. The structures and chemistry of such molecules are of importance in understanding the origins of life on this planet.

    Summary
    Facilities for spectroscopy and diffraction at high pressures. The provision of infrastructure for the study of novel materials under high pressures will enhance Australia's capability in creating new materials and in creating new devices that meet needs in communication, environment and medicine applications. The new facility will enable researchers to understand the response of structures to extreme pressures and will exploit the unique capabilities of the synchrotron light.
