Linkage Projects - Grant ID: LP130100700

    Funder
    Australian Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $450,000.00
    Summary
A green technology for liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification. Upon arrival to its destination, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) exported from Australia must be converted back into gas to make it suitable for distribution to end users, for which the current technologies burn up to two per cent our LNG exports. This project will design a technology that will use the energy of ambient air, which will not only increase the profit but also reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Conventional methods of municipal solid waste disposal, such as landfill and incineration, face strong community opposition because of their adverse environmental impacts. The proposed gasification process with its features, such as low energy demand, inexpensive manufacture, and simplicity, will offer an effective and alternative solution to the problem of municipal solid waste disposal. If deployed across the country, the volume reduction of waste will be 5 million tonnes per year. The corresponding reduction in greenhouse gases will be 15 Mega tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent or 2.7 per cent of the net national emissions. About 9 Terra Watt hours of electricity (3 per cent of the national demand) can also be produced, generating $700 million per annum.

A novel mineral looping tar removal process for biomass gasification. This project aims to develop a simple, robust and cost effective method for removing tar from biomass gasification processes. The solution (Mineral Looping Tar Removal) involves the cyclic carbonation and calcination of a mixture of naturally occurring minerals and/or solid waste to remove tar. This project will bring together energy researchers and renewable energy developers to resolve science and engineering issues that underpin the performance degradation of these minerals in large-scale settings. Project outcomes include improved understanding of gas cleaning and a cost effective and environmentally sound technology.
