This project aims to explore secure and practical solutions for various internet search types and to develop a prototype of a private searching system to avoid compromising user privacy whilst sharing query requests. Searching of streaming data allows collection of useful information from huge streaming sources of data such as on-line news feeds and internet chat-rooms. Current solutions for this problem are inefficient and restricted to a couple of simple search types, and vulnerable to identifying the search requester. The project expects to develop private searching tools to protect the privacy of user's search queries. This will have the potential to detect any attacks to our digital infrastructure while keeping the search criteria classified, and could have applications in Australian counter-terrorism and homeland defence.Read moreRead less

Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept ....Infrastructure for large-scale data resource sharing between research institutions – an environmental case study. The project creates a federated distributed data infrastructure for research, that encourages data creators to make their data available to other scientists, and encourages users to make use of data available from many sources. The vision is to establish an ICT infrastructure to facilitate a whole-of-environment approach to environmental research. The outcome is a proof-of-concept application based upon a case study of Queensland Environmental Protection Agency’s databases, to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexity, scope and key technological barriers for establishing an ICT infrastructure, to identify where the latest technologies can be used and where the gaps are for these technologies to be used in environmental sciences.Read moreRead less
Finding and exploiting interesting paths in multidimensional information spaces. This project will invent a new approach for searching within a large complex information space, finding interesting paths between points within the space, visualising the results, and supporting rich, human-centric user interaction with queries and results. This project will embody these techniques in a novel, internet-scale framework to support rapid development of large path search and visualisation applications. ....Finding and exploiting interesting paths in multidimensional information spaces. Evaluation will be via development of several exemplar applications. The techniques and framework will be applicable to a broad range of economically important problems in areas as diverse as health, travel, scientific publication search, product marketing and software engineering.Read moreRead less

How do we achieve flexibility and efficiency of financial services in electronic commerce environment using mobile software agents? To address this question the project will extend a system architecture based on mobile agents, which retrieve, pre-process and deliver relevant information to potentially mobile users. Two major components - information processor and agent mission processor - will be researched and developed by two PhD scholars to be supported by this application. The project results could be commercialised by the industry partner. The project is innovative in that it considers the emerging agent paradigm as an integrated distributed system in the e-commerce environment.Read moreRead less

We aim to produce a collaborative computing based approach to integrating and representing distributed renal models and resources that will enable researchers to gain access to and interact with the models and databases irrespective of format or location, permitting quantitative online exploration of new hypotheses within a variety of simulations. We will develop a portal providing an interactive 3D visualisation of the kidney as a user interface to a collection of distributed published models and extracted resources at all levels of renal physiology. The models will be hosted in France, New Zealand, Australia and the USA and be made available internationally to client users using Grid-based distributed computing systems.
