The notion that happiness is an important component of mental health is gaining popularity. Researchers have reported that happiness benefits physical health, however there is currently limited research. In addition, there is limited research assessing the affect of physical health on happiness. Using epidemiological methods, I will investigate the relationship between happiness and health in a database that has measurements collected at three time points in the same 15,000 people over 15 years.

Individuals with schizophrenia who report passivity symptoms feel that they are no longer in control of their movements and believe that their actions may be willed by some other power. This research aims to examine a set of mental processes which determine how the body is 'represented' in the brain and which, if disrupted, can lead to disorders of body experiences. The outcome of the study will lead to a greater understanding of passivity symptoms and can be used to plan interventions.

In this project a novel listening test software will be developed for diagnosing spatial processing disorder in children. These children often have difficulties in understanding teachers in classrooms, which can significantly impact their ability to learn. The developed software will be specifically designed for diagnosing 5-year old children, before they enter primary school, and in contrast to existing tests will be independent of their language background.

This will improve the quality of life of sufferers, develop healthcare networks and decrease healthcare utilisation.
