2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Breathe Well: A Centre For Research Excellence In Chronic Respiratory Diseases And Lung Ageing

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $2,527,082.00
    Summary
Our CRE is based on common respiratory conditions covering wide spectrum of ages and severity. We will investigate how to maintain optimal respiratory health, through innovative approaches to early detection, improved therapy and adherence. We have a strong multi-disciplinary team of collaborators and we will build capacity through post-doctoral fellowships to improve our structural balance and optimise translational outputs. Tasmania is an ideal community to host a strong CCRE.

Longitudinal Characterization Of Respiratory And Immune Development From Birth To Adulthood In The Perth Respiratory Birth Cohort

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $528,885.00
    Summary
The Perth Respiratory Birth Cohort Study began in 1987 and has assessed 253 children before birth and at follow-up at 1, 6 & 12 months, and 6, 11 & 18 years of age. The study has resulted in 63 publications and achieved consistent international prominence. The proposed study of the cohort at 24 yrs aims to determine the respiratory and immunological status of the cohort as young adults. This follow-up is essential to determine how early risk factors affect respiratory outcome in young adults.

The Western Australia Malignant Pleural Effusions Management Study- What Factors Can Guide Management And Do Indwelling Pleural Catheters Represent The Best Treatment Option?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $74,395.00
    Summary
This randomised clinical trial will determine whether indwelling tunnelled pleural catheters are the best treatment strategy for patients with malignant pleural effusions. It will also look for ways in which the speed of fluid recurrence can be predicted. It will save public money by finding the most cost effective treatment strategies.

Improving Health-related Quality Of Life In Patients Receiving Home Mechanical Ventilation

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $121,793.00
    Summary
Home mechanical ventilation (HMV) is a treatment that assists someone to breathe using a machine. People may need HMV when their breathing has failed due to conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), neuromuscular disease (NMD) or severe obesity. This project will examine the quality of life of patients receiving HMV in Australia and Canada. It will also determine if we can improve the treatment by using a sleep study to monitor breathing when patients first start HMV.

Temporal Dynamics Of Mechanics In COPD

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $113,462.00
    Summary
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) causes airway narrowing and lung destruction resulting in breathlessness and cough. Earlier detection of acute attacks of breathlessness may improve treatment, prevent progression and reduce risk of death. The forced oscillation technique can detect attacks earlier and is easy to perform. It will be used in this study for home monitoring with application of time series analyses to accurately detect change so that acute attacks can be treated earlier.

    How Does Bronchoconstriction Worsen Asthma?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $1,064,747.00
    Summary
Asthma causes wheeze and shortness of breath via airway narrowing, with asthma attacks commonly caused by virus infections. We plan to investigate how airway narrowing during an asthma attack decreases the body’s ability to fight off a viral infection, causing prolonged infection, worse asthma symptoms, more airway inflammation and long-term damage within the airways. We will attempt to use current and novel treatments to reverse these problems, and improve treatment for asthma.

Translational Research On Malignant Pleural Effusion And Pleural Infection

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $487,891.00
    Summary
I am a leading researcher in pleural effusions (fluid build-up in the chest) from cancer and infection. I run a multicentre clinical trial team to answer important questions directly relevant to patient care, as well as a lab research group with proven record of discovery new treatment targets. This fellowship will capitalize on platforms I have built and determine best approach to remove effusions, understand etiologic roles of the fluid ultimately to find ways to stop fluid from forming.
