Australian Membership of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. Membership of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) will provide high-leverage access to the largest, and most effective international geoscience program. Results from drilling within Australia's marine jurisdiction will give understanding of the oceans' state under past climates through high resolution records of the range of oceanographic and biological responses to climate change, the role of the deep biosphere in shapin .... Australian Membership of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. Membership of the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) will provide high-leverage access to the largest, and most effective international geoscience program. Results from drilling within Australia's marine jurisdiction will give understanding of the oceans' state under past climates through high resolution records of the range of oceanographic and biological responses to climate change, the role of the deep biosphere in shaping oil and gas deposits, hydrothermal and igneous processes involved in ore genesis, and enhanced understanding of some of the world's largest earthquake- and tsunami-generating processes.

This application for a Stable Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer Facility provides a focus for research collaboration and training in northern Australia. The Facility will enhance strong collaboration between organisations committed to increasing understanding of unique northern environments, and will include the Arafura Timor Research Facility, a Major National Research Facility. The Facility will contribute to studies of conservation biology, natural resource management, environmental and marine science and resource development in the tropical north. It will help develop knowledge bases, innovative approaches to environmental management and sustainable development and high levels of research and research training for regional development.

Plant Phenomics Imaging and Analysis Facility. The Australian plant science community faces a major challenge in being able to comprehensively characterise the performance or phenotype of plants in a high throughput manner necessary for post-genomic era science with model plant species, smart-breeding of crop plants and to assess plant-environment interactions. Our capacity to accurately 'phenotype' either a new mutant or a new variety has fallen behind out capacity to generate novel genetic mat .... Our capacity to accurately 'phenotype' either a new mutant or a new variety has fallen behind out capacity to generate novel genetic material. This facility will significantly boost research outputs across a range of disciplines pivotal to Australia's future agricultural plant productivity and environmental sustainability.

Analysing the roles of cospeciation and host-shifting in the evolution of behaviour and ecology of thrips associated with Australian Acacia. The relationships and interactions between phytophagous thrips and their host Acacia species provide a system well suited to investigating mechanisms of macroevolution in the Australian arid-zone biota. In this project we will determine the relative importance of mechanisms such as cospeciation and host-shifting within this model system, and examine the influence of these mechanisms on the evolution of both the insects and the host-plants. It is expected that the results of this study will provide insights into the evolution of arid-zone biodiversity in Australia and the nature of insect/host-plant interactions.
