2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure services including Reasearch Link Australia.

We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.

Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Transdisciplinary Stroke Assessment: Can It Improve Allied Health Efficiency And Care On An Acute Stroke Unit?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $106,268.00
    Summary
This study will evaluate a new way of effectively delivering allied health assessment on Acute Stroke Units. It will compare current practice (multiple discipline-specific assessments) to a new transdisciplinary assessment (one allied health assessment) on the Mater Hospital Brisbane Acute Stroke Unit. It is anticipated that the transdisciplinary assessment will be more time-efficient, cost-saving, improve quality of care, increase patient/staff satisfaction, and build inter-professional trust.

Sensory Exposure Of Neonates In Single-room Environments (SENSE)

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $108,902.00
    Summary
Preterm babies are often slower to reach developmental milestones than term babies. Extremely preterm babies spend a long time developing in the neonatal unit, which is suboptimal to the womb. Evidence suggests that open neonatal units are bright and loud and single rooms may be better for neonatal development. However, a recent study found poorer neurodevelopment with single rooms. This study aims to improve outcomes in single rooms through the application of a sound and language intervention.

A Prospective Investigation Of Musculoskeletal And Vestibular Deficits Post-concussion In Adolescent Rugby Players

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $66,746.00
    Summary
The primary aim of this thesis will be to investigate deficits in the musculoskeletal and vestibular systems in the acute and subacute periods following sport-related concussion injury in school level rugby union players.

Primaquine Radical Cure Of Plasmodium Vivax Malaria: A Risk-benefit Analysis

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $122,714.00
    Summary
Vivax malaria causes significant morbidity with over 100 million clinical cases each year and can cause a relapsing illness and chronic anaemia. The only available radical cure of P. vivax requires administration of primaquine, which can cause severe haemolysis in some patients. Our research aims to determine the risks and benefits of giving primaquine to cure vivax malaria using data from meta-analyses of published clinical trials and individual patient results from large multicentre trials.

Is Integrated Geriatric Care Effective In Older Adults With Metastatic Cancer Receiving First Line Chemotherapy?

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $119,538.00
    Summary
INTEGERATE looks at a coordinated program called integrated geriatric care to better support older people who are having chemotherapy for cancer which has spread (metastatic cancer). Doctors often treat metastatic cancer with chemotherapy. But older people are more vulnerable to problems from chemotherapy and cancer due to other health problems, trouble with doing things and their social circumstances. Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome And Neurocognitive Dysfunction

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $124,608.00
    Summary
In this study, we will assess neurocognitive function in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS – too slow or too shallow breathing) using a battery of tests including driving simulation, before and after 3 months of positive airway pressure therapy (CPAP). This will assess if chronically raised carbon dioxide levels contribute to impaired thinking capacity in addition to low oxygen levels.

Development, Validation And Implementation Of A Technical And Non-technical Skills Training Curriculum For Laparoscopic Appendicectomy Surgery

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $41,237.00
    Summary
A structured training curriculum will be developed that can teach novice surgeons in key surgical and decision-making skills required for laparoscopic appendectomy surgery (key-hole removal of the appendix). An assessment tool that can quantitatively evaluate performance during a laparoscopic appendectomy will be developed. Using this, the ability of the developed training curriculum to improve the performance of trainee surgeons during actual laparoscopic appendectomy surgery will be evaluated.

From Advocacy To Action: Utilising Health Impact Assessment As A Tool To Realise The Right To Health.

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $97,419.00
    Summary
The actions of governments often affect people’s health and wellbeing. Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is used to identify how these actions may impact on health and develop recommendations about how to maximise positive health benefits and reduce or stop negative impacts. This project is investigating how human rights can be used to strengthen the role of HIA in protecting the right to health.

Temporal Dynamics Of Mechanics In COPD

    Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
    Funding Amount
    $113,462.00
    Summary
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) causes airway narrowing and lung destruction resulting in breathlessness and cough. Earlier detection of acute attacks of breathlessness may improve treatment, prevent progression and reduce risk of death. The forced oscillation technique can detect attacks earlier and is easy to perform. It will be used in this study for home monitoring with application of time series analyses to accurately detect change so that acute attacks can be treated earlier.
