This Centre of Research Excellence will translate the best available evidence to improve cancer outcomes through better management of infections in cancer patients, a rapidly growing group. Summary
The CRE for Integrated Quality Improvement (CRE-IQI) will improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes by accelerating and strengthening large-scale primary health care (PHC) quality improvement efforts. As an Innovation Platform, it will build on and extend the work of the ABCD National Research Partnership, and leverage the efforts of researchers, service providers and policy makers to address priority areas for development of IQI in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander PHC.
The control of epidemics requires cross-sectoral engagement across various fields such as health, government, international law and security, at both national and international levels. The changing global landscape poses an increased threat to biosecurity, calling for cross-sectoral collaborative research and engagement. Integrated Systems for Epidemic Response (ISER) will convene and lead multidisciplinary systems research in epidemic response.

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is common and disability can be progressive so the heathcare burden is immense (0.14% GDP). Our Clinical trials network will improve early detection and develop new interventions to improve physical, cognitive and health outcomes for children with CP and their families. New Clinical Practice Guidelines will ensure translation internationally.

Childhood and adolescence is a critical period during which chronic disease in Indigenous Australians can be prevented. Each year in Australia 180,000 patients suffer a healthcare associated infection. Risk can be reduced with relatively simple technology but substantial costs arise with system wide adoption and monitoring. The economic paradigm is that funds can be invested for infection reduction to save costs and lives. The CRE will reveal the cost-effectiveness of infection control programmes and show health services decision-makers how to improve patient outcomes, save resources and save lives.
