2026 ARDC Annual Survey is now open!

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services.     My PhD research showed that placing several heart protection drugs into one pill helped many more people take these drugs. I am now looking at the best way to use ‘polypills’ in ‘real-life’. I will identify what is preventing use of polypills, in a country where they are currently available. I will examine new strategies that promote identifying patients who are eligible for polypills. I will also investigate whether the same concept can be used to improve blood pressure control.

    Type 2 diabetes is the most common endocrine disease in the world and up to 60% of diabetic patients have heart disease. Heart disease is the most expensive heath condition and biggest cause of death in Australia. Diabetic patients often accumulate fat (triglyceride) within their heart cells, leading to diabetic heart disease. The present study sought to determine if diabetic patients with increased fat within their heart cells have more scarring which eventually results heart muscle dysfunction ....     While osteoarthritis (OA) is considered a “wear and tear” disease, there is evidence that OA may be related to a cluster of metabolic abnormalities including obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and high cholesterol. Similarly, low back pain main be linked to a sedentary lifestyle and metabolic changes. This project will examine the relationship between metabolic derangements and back pain and large joint OA in an attempt to better understand these diseases and develop effective treatments.
