The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites you to participate in a short survey about your
interaction with the ARDC and use of our national research infrastructure and services. The survey will take
approximately 5 minutes and is anonymous. It’s open to anyone who uses our digital research infrastructure
services including Reasearch Link Australia.
We will use the information you provide to improve the national research infrastructure and services we
deliver and to report on user satisfaction to the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research
Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) program.
Please take a few minutes to provide your input. The survey closes COB Friday 29 May 2026.

Trauma and Unwanted Memories. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a potentially debilitating condition that affects survivors of trauma. Intrusive memories of the trauma is the key problem in people with PTSD. This project will attempt to understand intrusive memories and will clarify why these memories persist. Outcomes from this project will directly assist people with PTSD because it will enhance understanding of a key symptom that maintains the disorder.
Solving the passport problem: re-designing photo-ID to improve recognition. We aim to contribute to national security and crime prevention by increasing the accuracy with which security staff can check the validity of photo-ID documents such as passports. Research shows that it is surprisingly difficult to determine if the image on a photo-ID document is of the bearer, and as a result it is likely that fraudulent use of photo-ID documents sometimes goes undetected. Our novel approach is to use ....Solving the passport problem: re-designing photo-ID to improve recognition. Our novel approach is to use our knowledge of unfamiliar face perception to develop new image formats for photo-ID documents which increase the accuracy with which security staff can detect identity fraud.Read moreRead less
Music cognition in infants, children and adults. Music is an important tool for the expression of emotion and transmission of culture. One approach to understanding why music is a human universal is to examine how people process musical structure - the simultaneous and sequential pitch relations among tones of musical pieces. We investigate the way humans acquire implicit and explicit knowledge of such relations and the way exposure to music influences acquisition. Three experiments involving infants, children and adults will compare formal musical training with incidental learning. Results will increase knowledge of the development of auditory perception and music cognition. Infant perceptual predispositions hold implications for music education.Read moreRead less
Stereoscopic Vision at Large Distances. This project measures the benefits of stereopsis, which is a perception of depth obtained from binocular vision, at distances of tens to hundreds of meters. Almost nothing is known of our stereoscopic abilities over this range and thus this is new and fundamental data about human vision. We will investigate how monocular and binocular information is combined at large distances; an issue relevant to sensor fusion, a central problem in neuroscience. The research is also critical for any tasks involving judgments over long distances including the recognition of distant targets and their relationships as well as the visual guidance of vehicles such as helicopters. It will also provide critical information to designers of binocular instruments.Read moreRead less
School motivation in cultural context. This study examines the importance of personal, social and educational goals to school motivation and achievement of students from diverse cultural groups. This study examines the importance of personal, social and educational goals to school motivation and achievement of students from diverse cultural groups. It examines the inter-relationships between these goals, and their impact on student motivation, achievement and school retention. The study builds on a currently funded ARC project, which is being extended in United States schools using US generated funds provided by Arizona State University and South Western Oklahoma State University. The study will provide essential information on how schools may be renewed to better suit the needs of diverse students.Read moreRead less
How, What and Who in Human Communication: Movement of Face and Voice. The aim of this project is to identify the essential characteristics of tone, affect, and identity from face and voice using a combination of signal processing, biological, and behavioural techniques in order to develop a comprehensive model of auditory-visual speech processing and communication. This research will significantly improve understanding of the basis of auditory-visual perception and production in tonal languages ....How, What and Who in Human Communication: Movement of Face and Voice. The aim of this project is to identify the essential characteristics of tone, affect, and identity from face and voice using a combination of signal processing, biological, and behavioural techniques in order to develop a comprehensive model of auditory-visual speech processing and communication. This research will significantly improve understanding of the basis of auditory-visual perception and production in tonal languages and in affective communication, facilitate links between neurophysiological processes and auditory-visual speech processing; and contribute to applications in automatic person recognition, automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech systems, and talking head aids for the hearing impaired.Read moreRead less

The proposed project targets the collaboration between two leading research teams. The University of Marburg is leading in the area of the preparation of nanoobjects, while the research team at CAMD (UNSW) focuses on the preparation of well-controlled polymer structures via RAFT polymerisation. The combined strength of both groups seeks to improve the properties of nanodevices by the attachment of well-defined polymer layers. We expect therefore an optimum scientific output with both groups focusing on their research potency next to being able to access new knowledge. The visit to the German research group enables the Australian researchers access to a leading team in nanotechnology.Read moreRead less

The project is planned for a duration of three years to ensure an in-depth approach to the proposed projects.Read moreRead less
Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Hybrid star polymers grown from carbohydrate clusters. The aim of the project is to make complex polymer architectures based on stars grown from sugar clusters. The star molecules are expected to have unique properties for transporting guest molecules in drug delivery systems. The outcome will be the development of totally biodegradable, non-toxic cluster/star structures capable of complexing to drugs. This is the first attempt to utilise these clusters ....Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Hybrid star polymers grown from carbohydrate clusters. Governments have made and are continuing to make substantial investments in policies, strategies and research to address the perceived risk of obesity and related health issues. Schools in particular have been targeted to address the issue. This research seeks to inform public policy and school practices by examining how the new health imperatives are being taken up by schools. It will examine how these imperatives are shaping schools' priorities and teaching about health, and how this, in turn, influences young people's attitudes and understandings of their own and others' health, in particular in relation to physical activity and food.Read moreRead less
