Colorectal Cancer Membrane Protein Interactomics [A Major Discriminator Of Clinical Outcome]
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$643,778.00
Summary
This project studies the molecular causes of colorectal cancer (CRC) malignancy because CRC is the 2nd most common malignancy by incidence and cause of death in the Western world. It currently results in 13.1% of Australian cancer deaths. The aim of this NHMRC project is to gain a detailed understanding of how particular cell membrane proteins interact with each to give cancer cells the ability to invade and spread.
Defining The Role Of The PSA-related Kallikrein Serine Proteases In Hormone Dependent Cancer Progression
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$880,454.00
Summary
Kallikreins are a family of 15 proteins, related to the prostate cancer biomarker PSA, that have potential as biomarkers for hormone dependent cancers such as prostate and ovarian cancer. Prof Judith Clements and her team discovered that kallikreins induce resistance to chemotherapy in ovarian cancer and are found in prostate cancer bone disease. Her research will determine the underlying mechanisms of kallikrein action and their potential as new biomarkers or treatment targets for these disease ....Kallikreins are a family of 15 proteins, related to the prostate cancer biomarker PSA, that have potential as biomarkers for hormone dependent cancers such as prostate and ovarian cancer. Mechanistic And Functional Characterization Of The Atypical Kinase SgK269
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$271,879.00
Summary
The overall aim of this study is to characterize at a mechanistic and functional level the oncogenic role of SgK269. We will use quantitative proteomics and phosphoproteomics to characterize the signaling network role of SgK269 and subsequently undertake a detailed structure/function analysis of SgK269 in mammary epithelial cells. Our study will provide novel insights into the signaling mechanism and function of SgK269 and highlight the potential strategies for improved treatment of basal breast ....The overall aim of this study is to characterize at a mechanistic and functional level the oncogenic role of SgK269. KLK4 Is A Master Regulator Of Tumour Microenvironment Remodelling In Prostate Cancer And Bone Metastasis
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$596,305.00
Summary
The current biomarker for prostate cancer, PSA, belongs to a large family of related proteins called KLK enzymes. We have evidence that one of these enzymes, KLK4, regulates many different pathways involved in tumour spreading especially to bones. This project will determine the specific components involved with a view to finding better biomarkers of tumour spread and bone metastasis and designing better treatments for these aspects of the disease.
Global Characterization Of The Src-regulated Kinome
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$591,334.00
Summary
This proposal aims to use new cutting-edge techniques to globally characterize the impact of a particular cancer-causing gene, or oncogene, on the expression and function of an important family of regulatory proteins, termed kinases, in cancer cells. This will identify proteins critical for cancer cell growth and survival that represent potential targets for therapy.
Identification Of Novel Treatment Strategies For Human Cancers Through Integrative Phosphoproteomics And Kinomics.
Funder
National Health and Medical Research Council
Funding Amount
$763,409.00
Summary
This proposal aims to use new cutting-edge techniques to characterize, at a global level, changes in growth regulatory signals in cancer cells. This will identify proteins critical for cancer growth that represent potential targets for therapy. In addition it will highlight ways to select the most effective treatments for individual patients. The ultimate outcome of this work will be improved treatment strategies for cancer patients, and hence reduced morbidity and mortality.
